Re: VSH Carniolan and Proline Queens

Under the few circumstances that happens a year, yes I replace the queens even though mishandling by usps is out of my hands. I take care of these problems and eat the expense.

    Re: Bur Comb between cells

    1. Less space between cells. Put them right next to each other.
    2. Thinner frame
    3. Keep all the bars in, even if you only graft one frame.
    4. Give them a place to put that surplus wax, like a...

FYI I am getting the virus warning again.
  8. Re: Do you leave Frame Feeders in all the time?

I leave my frame feeders in year round. Some do build burr comb in them, but the availability of having a feeder in each hive all the time is worth it.
  9. Re: Not sure how to mate queens by the numbers

Yes, for 30 queens per batch plan on 45 mating nucs. Success can vary during certain times of year.

Re: Carniolan VSH Queens For Sale

Not at this time. I am combining mating nucs and requeening some of my colonies. Might have some in a few weeks but I don't know for sure, so not taking any orders at this time.

  12. Re: Banking queens that haven't laid yet?

Give her more nurse bees and let her lay. Banking till next year? Not a good idea and probably won't work anyway. Build her up with brood and bees and let her overwinter in a nuc.

    Re: Grafting tips?

No open brood in the cell builder and overflowing with bees helps acceptance. I have found poor takes sometimes and most generally they started cells of their own on frames of open brood. Set up your...

    http://https://www.facebook.com/video.php?v=864233176964923&notif_t=like

I always see questions on how to mark queens. Here's a video we did this week for another forum.
  19. Re: Overwintering with Pop-up greenhouse?

Critical temps is hard to say. We have had negative temps for days and the bees do well providing they have a large enough winter cluster and access to carbs. I would say your problem with a pop up...

Re: Adding a Nuc to a weaker hive

Good advice. If you have plenty of honey and pollen in the hive, nutrition is not your problem. If they are laying solid frames of eggs but later the pattern is spotty that narrows it down to brood...

Re: 2 or 3 frame deeps for mating

Michael I have seen your stacks of mating nucs before. How do you keep queens from drifting to the wrong hole. We try to spread our nucs out as much as space will allow. Does each box have it's own...
