    Re: Tennessee Newby

    Welcome from Ten Mile! :)

There are members of Cherokee Beekeepers in Athens that also belong to Ocoee Beekeepers. Lots of help and experience in the area.

    Re: Beware of the Birds!

The house where I grew up had cedar siding and woodpeckers used to peck at the knotholes. Dad tacked up a few mouse traps (I had thought about submitting that to the show "Real People" at the time)...

It is also available on DVD for us that don't have broadband internet. :)
  5. Re: Interested in bee keeping from Holly Ridge, NC

Read all you can. I recommend Beekeeping for Dummies. It is a simplistic book, but it covers all the basics and gives you a feel for what you're getting into. There are more detailed books out...

I hope you never lose a hive to SHB. If you do, you'll never forget it.

If the hive is ventilated, wouldn't the moisture go out the top?

Re: 10 frame vs 8 frame???

Actually, I wouldn't have felt so bad if I had hurt my back messing with hives. I sprained it bending over to pick up an empty bird feeder.
I'm not sure how I'm going to do the boxes yet. It's...

That wasn't a well-written article. It left me confused.

Re: 10 frame vs 8 frame???

Since I sprained my back this year at the worst possible time (first of May), I am going to do a safety/back protection presentation at our association's short course next spring. One of the things...

Re: Perico Frames and Burr Comb

I started with Pierco and they did ok (because that's all the bees had to work with). I did have a difficult time the first inspection of the year in the spring (I had to lay the boxes down and pry...

    Re: Hello from southwest Georgia

Welcome and enjoy your stay! :)

I know where Camilla is. I used to drive a truck for Oil-Dri out of Ochlocknee around the turn of the century.

My advice is to 1: Read all you can. 2: Find...

Re: completely see through langstroth hives?

You'd have to consider the greenhouse affect. It would have to be well ventilated or it would get too hot with the sun shining in (like a parked car with the windows up).

Re: Brushy Mountian vs Mann Lake??

I got my first boxes from BM, but switched to WT Kelley because they came with nails and BM didn't.

I just ordered $57 worth of stuff, and got free shipping. It was calculated into it, I guess. Fill up your cart and start to check out and watch the shipping. Remember, not everything is eligible...

Re: Brushy Mountian vs Mann Lake??

I understand BM is offering free shipping for orders over $100 (I don't know if a special code is required) and ML is offering free shipping now for orders over $50.

Re: 10 frame vs 8 frame???

After being down for a month with a strained back starting the end of April (when everything bee related needed to be going full speed), I decided 8-frame is for me. I still have two deeps on the...

    Re: Best Robber Screen Design?

Thanks David. Those are some really good points to ponder.

I plan on trying my hand at woodworking this winter, and robber screens will definitely be on the list to try.
