  1. Re: New bee keeper tragedy but may have silver lining.

Ok checked things out and there was lots of wax shavings in the bottom of the hive an not a colony living in there. Looks like I need to clean things up and pack stuff away to keep other bugs out if...
  2. Re: New bee keeper tragedy but may have silver lining.

Ok thank you all for the additional opinions. I am realistic and expecting this to be robbers but am hopeful that an early swarm has moved in. Who knows what has happened? Here in a few days I will...
  3. Re: New bee keeper tragedy but may have silver lining.

Ok thank you. I will not have a chance to really check the hive early morning until Friday. I will do that then right at sun up and see what kind of activity there is and report back.
  4. New bee keeper tragedy but may have silver lining.

    Hello fellow beeks

Lasted year I purchased my first nuke. Things were great! There was a small (or what I thought was small), SHB infestation. I treated with Nematodes to try and fight them back....
  5. Re: Expanding while mixing foundation and foundation-less

Ok a good bit of time has passed. I did get around to adding the 3rd hive body after the second was full. The second box looked awesome with all strait comb. I added a few frames to the 3rd box and...

    Re: New screened inner cover

I thought about that but I already have a couple boxes already to long (20 1/4"). So I am going to make a cover and bottom the same length and just have one hive all to long. I'll start a new hive in...

    Re: New screened inner cover

Ok so my inner cover has been on for a while now. As described in another thread I made some mis measurements and needed to make a second inner cover the proper length so that the telescoping cover...

  10. Re: Foundationless Frames in a Langstroth Hive in N.H.

I started a hive this year but had the first box started with foundation and the second added box is foundationless. I just moved a couple frames from the bottom box to the empty box on top. The bees...
  11. Re: Learn wood working the best way... With mistakes!

Thanks for all the words of wisdom and help. I may have to look into a jig setup eventually down the road. I am making this a 3 year project and after expanding from 1 to 4 hives in that time, of I...
  12. Re: Learn wood working the best way... With mistakes!

Lol ok so along the lines of what marsh said. I am measuring 20" cause my tape measure's tap is 1/8" off. So you are correct 19 7/8 is the proper measurement.
  13. Learn wood working the best way... With mistakes!

    Oh boy!

I learned a lot today. I went to add a new screened inner cover on today and found all sorts of problems.

First off I purchased a 10 frame deep kit from a manufacture to start my bees...

It is raining hard today. So unless the sun comes out in a few hours I may have to wait till tomorrow to put on the new inner cover. We will see.

    Re: New screened inner cover

The triangle are about 1/4 of an inch or maybe about 5/16. I may just leave the front and back off and see how it goes. I'll play around till I see what works for my bees.

    With the super humid...

Best of luck! I had a softball size swarm land in my back yard last year about second week of August! Talk about a late swarm. And at that point I had only started reading about beekeeping. I had...

Re: How long can the bees stand an ugly face?

Haha 5 to 10 minutes!?! No wonder the bees were pissed. Now I was using a smoker and I noticed after a little bit there were lots of bees lining the tops of frames and were fanning their wings. Think...

Re: How long can the bees stand an ugly face?

I did see plenty of signs of her being around. I found some freshly drawn comb with new little larva in plenty of the cells. So she is in there and laying about. So about 15 min maximum you think on...
  23. Re: Expanding while mixing foundation and foundation-less

    Ok another update today!

It has been 24 days since adding the 10 new foundationless frames. I opened her up and took a good look at the new box on top. I was a little over confident and built...
