    Give them plenty of ventilation.
    Screen bottom and a screen top with a lose cover over the screen.
    I even have screen tops for my buckets.

    I have 16 hives at my house and there is 90% forest in all directions for 10 + miles.
    I'm in the Nat. forest.
    Just place them in as much sun as you can.
    Your honey will be darker.

    I put 2 frames of brood in the new hive body and they walk in and down almost every time.

    When I do mine I set the new hive on the ground with the board only going up the height of 1 deep hive body.
    When finished add whatever top you use.
    Maby you need to watch a few videos for clearer...

    By splitting them in 3 you may have upset the swarm impulse.

    It should work as most of the bee's have not been out of the NEW HOUSE yet.

    If the Queen is not laying in both box's and only in the top you may want to reverse them to give her more room.
    It may help to delay swarming.

    2 swarm calls today.
    #1 Ozark Mo. they took off just as my son got there and he followed them to a large tree with a 2" x 20" crack. I am going there tomorrow with a frame of brood.
