Re: is this an excessive amount of dead bees?

I have way more dead bees than that and my hives are still alive so far. I always scrape them out too, I think all those dead bees contribute to moisture problems, but that is my own unproven...

  3. Re: What's the biggest mistake (s) you made starting out?

Not paying enough attention the second year. Didn't want to disturb them as much as the first year, so ended up losing to varroa. Also lost one this winter due to moisture, didn't get them set up...

Having no swarm calls last year, I got two within 5 minutes of each other tonight. Both at or near ground level. One was huge, at least I think it was, never having seen too many. Will they be...

    Split Question

I have a hive that is 1 deep 3 med. I would like to split. If I put 2 boxes each hive can I put them next to each other or will the bees all drift back to the queen right hive? I'm on 1 acre but...
  13. Re: PICTURES finally found my queen two week hive inspection she's doing great i thin

That looks like one of my queens. I was guessing Carni for mine too. I never saw her till this spring (one year) so your doing better than me spotting queens....lol

    Re: I need bees

I know the feeling. Last year I waited forever for my bees......kept getting delayed.....finally got them the last week of May, I believe. It is worth the wait, so much to learn once you get them.

    Re: Supers and frames

I put some medium frames in deep boxes, trying to get them drawn out last spring. They did fine, drawing drone comb on the bottom. I didn't put 2 mediums next to each other, they were sandwiched...

Re: medium brood frames in a deep nuc body?

Here is a pic of a medium frame from a deep box in one of my hives. They have drawn drone comb on the bottom. I am planning on running all mediums, so i put some in the deep to get them drawn out. I...

    Re: Bees Predicting Weather

I noticed this today. checked my hives when I got home and they were way busy. There was thunder in the distance and within 15 minutes they were all in the hive, shortly before the rain and wind hit.

    Re: Is this robbing

I'm a new beek also, but everything I have read is its bee to bee combat on the front porch if they are being robbed. The pics need to be closer to really tell. Do you see lots of fighting going on?
  23. Re: Do you always SEE evidence of bees gathering nectar and pollen?

Mine aren't bringing in much pollen right now at all. I'm assuming they are bringing in nectar, cause they are busy bees right now!
