Have you ever tried to sell it to a honey producer?
So the thermostat on my honey sump suck on and I burnt about 50 gal of honey. Is this basically only good for bee feed now. Will larger honey buyers buy this for anything? Not happy. Most of my honey...
Hey fuzzy, do yo winter two deep? I find that they have the top box cleaned up pretty well buy feb, and by April the top box is full of brood ready for me to do splits.
Does anyone use a frame...
That is great information Honeyshack. I always wondered why people said not to winter with canola honey. Are you finding it poor year for honey production? The canola bloomed her for about six days....
So I started extracting today. I am finding a lot of frames that are capped over with granular honey. My supers have been in my hot house for a week. Not sure what to do. Should I just put them out...
My experience is that the nurse bees will not abandon the brood if you use bee go. I think you could still do a cut out with the brood and still band it into frames.
Ok, I did some splits this spring as my hives wintered very well. I made a few mistakes.
I started my splits in standard hive body's with ten frames: one frame honey stores, 3 frames of capped...
I am thinking vertically. The stump is still rooted into the ground. If I do a top bar style then each frame can be inspected and if it gets to big I can do cut outs and move them into some other...
Ya, there are a few problems I see with my idea. I was thinking of a two layer top bar approach. That way the comb could be removed and inspected.
The other problem I see is. Hive maintanence, it...
So I was cutting down a bunch of dead trees on my property when I came a cross a big dead hollow tree. After I cut the top off that was Bradley broken and fallen over I got an idea.
I thought it...
Thanks captain obvious! if it was the other way around my post probably would have read: "Woohoo I had 3 swarms today."
I was adding honey supers last Wednesday everything was looking good. They were plugging honey away like mad. Filled a deep and a medium in a week. I go out tonight to see if they had filled the the...
I have been told by beekeepers in my area that if you don't replace the comb, the build up on the cells will end up producing smaller bees. Any truth to this?
Thanks for all the great help. Does anyone know how to upload a picture from an iPad? I want to put up a pic of the stuff I have built so far.
Thanks Peter,
This with Joseph link is exactly what I needed.
I will get a picture up tonight for you
So I decided to build all my own hive stands and inner covers. I built 24 hive stands ans 24 covers today for just under $100.00. I havent painted them yet. I am thinking about building my owns...
I am fighting a sinis infection so I can't taste anything properly to tell if it tastes funny. I hope it is just crystalized. Thanks for the photo. Definitely does nor look like that
What does fermented honey look, taste and smell like? The lastbatch I extracted has crystalized, almost ccreamed itself. This happened over about a week of packaging it. It smells like honey. But I...
Well if I am going to let my dog chew on a frame, I will not be reusing that frame. If you don't have a suggestion of value, feel free to keep your comments to yourself. If I wanted my dogs on a...
Lol, I wish it was that easy I stackthe extracted frames on top of my hives. They find a way to knock them down. Then I end up with frames scattered around. The bees are a good distance from the...
New problem. My dogs are always getting into my honey supers after they have been extracted. The eat the wax and then wreck the frame and foundation. They then come in the house and get sick. I have...
Well I had bought a few yards of the 120 micron nylon so I decided to give it another try. I picked up a radiant heater and put the pails in a room and have got the heat cranked. It is already speed...
Oh, fun fun. Hmmm now I guess I will look for some bigger straining cloth.
I am going to go get a ceramic heater. Try and get things thinned out. Does anyone have any links or suggestions for straining on a larger scale? I will need a lot of 5 gal pails at this pace.
