    Re: Beevital Hive Clean?

It is oxalic acid based, plus some other ingredients. Works as good as oxalic acid. It is apparently a bit expensive for oxalic acid.

Re: Why a cell starter and finisher?

60 Cells per colony. Referring to question about how many cells per queenless starter finisher.

Re: Why a cell starter and finisher?

Many different ways indeed. I've seen a very large queen breeding operation using queenless starter finishers all the time.

Would love if you could open a new thread about your experience with Kefuss stock.

    Interesting read:

I have yesterday released some just emerged virgin queens into my mating nucs. From what I have seen, so far so good. No...

  7. Re: I got 40 out of 45 Q cells capped and zero hatched???

So many points of failure. You would need to write a detailed report on what you did, and then maybe someone would be able to point out what happened.
  8. Re: Another day another mystery - Queen Balling??? Video

It is not a good idea to put frame with eggs into a swarmed hive. Bees sense eggs and do not want a virgin queen which is what you have there. Better give them capped brood if they need support.

Re: where do I post questions on Chemical free Beekeeping ?

Couple things, as per my experience and limited knowledge.
Long hives: waste of time, especially if you use regular deep frames, and even worse if you use mediums. Reason: bees go up and down, as...

    Re: Rose hive method

Exactly Bernard. Makes no sense, like many other "new" systems. Those weird tbh with legs, sun hive, bienen kiste and more. Also the so called open source beehive. Lot of nonsense preying on newbie...

    Re: American Foulbrood (afb)

Maybe not bad but not really necessary. The reason number 1 for spreading AFB is transfering frames and other equipment between hives, number two robbing of infected hives.

There is a good NZ book...

    Re: Formic application methods question

Just as Goran above said. Female hygienic pads, injected with 25 ml of 65% formic acid. As cheap and simple as possible. 4-6 treatments 5-7 days apart. Worked nicely on my 100 colonies last autumn....

Re: Oxalic Acid Vaporization - Questions and Answers

I think there might be two issues involved. You want certain level of fumes in your brood boxes. If you have five supers on top of brood boxes you might not have enough vapor for proper treatment....
  14. Re: Making nucs with Pseudo strips until having a queen

You are missing something. If swarming for you starts in April, that is the time when you can start queen rearing.

Re: Splits -Tips for Finding the Queen

A few minutes? Not really, maybe after few hours. Generally bees without queen act confused and not organised in a way. They also start buzzing in a nervous kind of way.
  16. Re: Thick mold on frames - discard or let bees clean

Depends on the circumstances. If you have a very strong hive and a good flow, the can do it. If its really bad and old comb it is going to be a lot of hard work for the bees. If the hive is weak they...

Re: Splits -Tips for Finding the Queen

Take yuor time. You need to look carefully and go through all frames, sometimes even more then once. The only rule is that there are no rules. If she is hard to find close the hive and return later....

    Re: 8 frame...how to space?

If you are a pro and running trough your hives center them, push them all to the middle. If a hobbyst spread the last frames on both sides a bit to the walls.
Then, if you are a pro you wouldnt ask...

Re: Oxalic acid. To dribble or vaporize?

I disagree. Dribbling is fast, easy and cheap. You dont need any equipment, except for a plastic bottle and a syringe. Nothing can happen to you, on the other side if you inhale oxalic acid vapour...

Re: Oxalic acid. To dribble or vaporize?

Dribble, much safer, more simple and faster. It is almost a perfect treatment if you have a broodless period.

Re: Breeding and rasing bees for packages

Do what they do when they swarm. They swarm when they have a lot of necatar and pollen comming in, and when there is a lot of brood. A good young queen with great brood pattern. Healthy bees, well...
