    Re: Cleaning Uncapping Hot Knife

Using 2 or more cold knives and rotating them through a pot of hot water (be sure to wipe them down) actually seems easier to me than the hot knife and there is no cord to deal with.

    Re: The Nuc Option

Michael Magnini has a book on making swarm traps from Sono-tubes. I have made 2 and have 4 more in progress. Crummy book. Swarm traps are cheap and look good. The proof will be in the pudding I...

  5. Re: Hive beetles should be gone, but they are thriving!

I use DE in the mulch under the hives and oil trays under the bottom boards. Jim Tew talked about using microfiber cloth over the top frames in his article in Bee Culture or ABJ. (I mix them up)

Re: A guide to buying package bees.

Have 2 packages ordered from RWeaver this spring. They say theirs will be shipped with dry sugar. I bet those bees will be thirsty. The website specified weight of the packages. They are coming...

    Re: honey extracctor not sure

A friend and I bought a "little tiger" from Pigeon Mountain for a little over $100. Make sure you have them add the honey-gate. It takes a couple of hours on a Saturday morning to extract the honey...

Re: pol-line and selection for mite resistance

I have ordered a couple of All-American packages for this spring. They are supposedly resistant, but none of my other colonies are. I will be raising my own queens and am too small scale to flood...

    Re: Never requeen

The queens I have replaced so far have been gone.

The replacement queens have not been as good as the ones I lost.

I have read everything I can find on queen raising, but do not have the...

    Re: Nightmares!

Don't let it bother you Ace. Just leave them there and let the bees eat them in the spring. You can eliminate 2 jobs.

Re: Dead hive photos of comb.

Pretty comb. Stains are from brood. I think the bees just used it up. The combs would be more ragged if it had been robbed out. Was there a lot of wax scraps on the bottom board?

Re: How many frame feeders in double deeps?

Then you have to unstack the boxes to feed. If you really want to use two, put them both in the top. Be a lazy beekeeper. Your bees will appreciate it.

Only the top. If you have a screened inner cover you can pour the syrup right through the wire. be careful to avoid spillage as that can cause robbing. If you do spill, rinse it with a very little...

    Re: Queen Castle Plans

The "plans" for my queen castle(s) is just a 10 frame deep, with a piece of masonite on the bottom and 2 dado's for dividers. Top is custom cut 1" (3/4") boards.

The mistake I made with the 1st...

    Re: Making a swarm trap

    Re: 2016, packages vs nucs?
