  1. Re: Some bees crawling in grass in front of hive

Are the bees crawling around on the ground drones? I see them in front of my hives this time of year when the workers kick them out so they don't have to feed them.

    Re: Poo Yaah They MAD...

We're in a dearth here also and my bees are not happy campers. They come at me when I'm refilling their feeders outside of and away from the hives.

    Delayed reaction to a sting

We're in a dearth and the hive getting tempermental. I was standing next it watching them toss out the drones when one of the little buggers nailed me right on the inside of my middle finger. I had...

Re: SHB populations low this year?

Somewhere on here I read that you shouldn't have a compost bin anywhere near the beehives. I had one last year and I had lots of SHB. I don't have one this year and I just saw my first beetle this...

Can someone identify the big yellow striped bee on the right side of this picture. It was working the sunflowers alongside the bumblebees today. It's too big for a yellow jacket and it's too long...

Since honeybees came over with the colonists they celebrate Independence Day just like we do.

  11. Re: Ethanol-Induced Effects on Sting Extension Response and Punishment Learning

We have a local distillery that makes a darn good honey liqueur by mixing honey, ethanol, and a bunch of spices. It definitely has an effect on socially relevant behaviours.

I've had two top bar hives in the suburbs for two years now. One of the reasons I picked top bar hives was that they don't look like beehives and so they don't stand out. I only asked the neighbors...

I put tung oil on the outside of my hives before I got the bees. I'm wondering if it's ok to put a second coat on later this summer? Would the smell bother the bees?

    Re: is this normal

Mine do that every day about 4pm. They come out and fly around for about 15 minutes. Get a little exercise, some fresh air, use the bathroom, and then it's right back to work. Sounds like my job.

I'd take the entrance reducer back off. If it's too warm in the hive some of the bees will just hang out on the outside.
