That sounds about right for the age of bees and the difference between nucs and packages. Takes packages a couple of weeks longer to draw comb then lay.

Re: Question about second hive body

Rob, here in the eastern part I rather run two deeps. I have found for me that they make more honey in that configuration. The deep mediums make about the same most of the time, but the odds of a...
  8. Re: My Steps to become a Commercial Beekeeper - Needing Critique

Sounds exactly what I would have written. I always love it when someone asks how many hives I have. I have some in every stage, I just say around thirty.

I have found that around 40 is all I...

    Re: Inner cover hole

I don't make more than a dozen or so at a time. Since the ex-brotherinlaw ended up with my hole saw for lids, I have been just drawing a circle around a lid and drilling out with a wood bit and then...

    Re: Queen Raising Question.

I would buy a couple of mated queens and split soon. Then feed a lot to get things drawn out as soon as possible. I can't seem to get comb drawn around here after July. Once you get the bees and...

Here in Eastern Ky, I checked a hive on Friday that had a dozen or so queen cells ready to be capped. I pulled the Queen yesterday.

    Re: Early in year split

Hey Mountain Man, if you have a mated queen and a bunch of bees I don't see a problem. Make sure they have enough bees to cover the brood they will have to keep them warm. This crazy weather,...

Poplar in May, and Lin and Sourwood middle of June to first week or so in July. Then pack them up and head out of this dead zone. No not that bad but pretty sparse here from July on out.
