    Re: Any Illinois warre beeks?

    OK I'll bite...

Reading your post it does read as if you do want a heated debate, but I'll give you the benefit of doubt.

I must admit I found this comment distasteful, but I am sure...

    Re: wax mold?

Some beekeepers are concerned about the amount and types of chemicals in bought wax foundation, by making foundation with your own wax at least you know what chemicals you put in the hive/wax and can...

air cooling, don't think it will help much. The water cooled models work best.

    Re: wax mold?

Mist the mold with a solution of water and dish washing liquid before pouring in the molten wax, works very well. Vegetable oil works on the metal parts.

    Re: FGMO fogger for varroa

I fogged with FGMO and thymol for a season. Never again.
On my list of mite treatments, that's second from bottom. Pure FGMO is rock bottom.
Its a waist of time and money.
  8. Re: 30% overwintering losses...is that accurate?

I can't agree more. When I started beekeeping I lost every hive for two years running (as you know Bernhard). I still hear "that if you loose more than 3 % over winter, you are not a beekeeper." I...
  9. Re: 30% overwintering losses...is that accurate?

Could it be that I pay an insurance premium per hive, despite having a little insurance of my own in the form of a nuc or two hidden around the apiary.

  11. Re: Oxalic Acid Vaporizer Results - Users post here!

I wont open a hive once it's dark, so I can't use quite a few of the other treatment methods if I am late home from work. But I can pop the vaporizer in and treat. Works well for me.

    Re: Queen raising question

This year was my 2nd year raising queens, I used a normal hive body split into 4 with divider boards. That gave me a mating nuc with 2 frames. 1 of brood 1 of honey. With just these two frames some...

  14. Re: Does anyone have a good frame design?

I use the frame designed by Roger Delon in my Warre/Delon hives. I use a stainless steel 3mm wire fitted to the top bar. Works well.

    Re: Mark's new Honey Label

Both concepts for the old and new label work. The question is obviously which one works better (sells more). Market research will find that out, which is sort of what the original post is trying do....

    Re: Mark's new Honey Label

When a product is displayed on a shelf or a table, for sale, it's normally stacked up. That means the label is repeated. It also means you only see a portion of the label or package. This should be...

    Re: mineral oil

    I tried it.
Plain mineral oil did NOT work for me.
I tried mixing it with thymol. That really pissed the Bees off big time and did not work well for me.
Now I use OAV and Formic acid. (The...

Re: Considering switching to Oxalic Acid

An empty tea light cup works well as a vaporization tray. Push with your thumb on the underside of the cup to form a small indentation, creating a place for the OA. Punch some small holes in the side...
  22. Re: oxalic acid treated hives with high mite counts

Sound like perfect conditions for a FA treatment. It is puzzling that you don't seem to get an efficiency in the high 90% range.
  23. Re: oxalic acid treated hives with high mite counts

For FA to work well you need a temp over 20 deg.C but not above 30 deg.C. At the moment we don't have that and are not likely to get it,so we have been recommended to double up on our pads or...

Yes, it does sound like honeydew from "Oak." It is often and strong flow and usually ends very abruptly. Since you like the taste all is good.

    Taste.

It tastes very different to floral honey, quite an acquired taste. It is usually a dark honey and often is quite runny. The first time I tasted it I thought it was inedible, and the thought...
