    Re: Apivar

I've used Apivar a number of times and have always been satisfied with the performance... I've heard from a number of sources that the full 56 day treatment is important though as it has little to no...

    Re: open drum feeding

Another way to look at it is that the hives with a higher population are getting more feed than the ones with lower... Not necessarily a bad thing especially with singles but that being said I think...

How many easy payments will it be?
  4. Re: When a Queen fails in Winter - what does that look like?

Same as if it died of mites really... Still food stores within reach of the cluster and no dysentery on the comb but a dead hive none the less... Remember as with varroa damage the hive will...
  5. Re: When a Queen fails in Winter - what does that look like?

Generally speaking even if you give them brood there won't be drones flying that early in the year to mate with the new queen. Also the bees in the hive will all be old and thus poor royal jelly...
  6. Re: When a Queen fails in Winter - what does that look like?

Yeah you can tell which ones they are by the sound on warm days... I usually end up with three or four a winter... Not much to be done economically to save them up where I am though, just knock em...

    Re: Indoor wintering

Out of curiosity what's the demand level for nucs out on the prairies? Do you guys just prefer packages? How many brood frames do you guys like them? I'd also be interested what the price point...

Re: Number of hives and employee ratio?

Maybe the next question should be how frequently you believe it's necessary to open a hive in spring summer and fall respectively. From that individual philosophy it's a lot easier to back figure...

Re: who still builds frames ?

I bought and assembled around 20,000 jones frames last winter. It was gonna be around 20 cents extra per frame to have an entire semi load (22,500 roughly) assembled and delivered, didn't think it...

If you really believe that this is a legitimate product would you perhaps be interested in an exciting opportunity to purchase some ocean front property in Arizona? Have they checked if it cures...

Sorry for disappearing been wrapping bees and getting stuff all put away like mad, currently I don't jar much at all... As in not much more than a barrel or two's worth but I'd been asked about...

    Re: Migratory lids

Maybe I'm wrong but pressure treated wood contains arsenic and a few other nasty chemicals... I would be extremely hesitant to put it in direct contact with bees.

    Re: Automated Bottling Line

Glass mainly but the ability to do plastic wouldn't be a bad thing... 1000 would be good but the ability to do more in less time could be useful.

Re: I would like to be a commercial beek

So do you just knock each brood frame individually into the chamber below until you see her then? Seems like a lot of work but there must be a measurable benefit if you're doing it.

I like the looks of that... Do you mix up the sugar water before it enters the 5000 gallon tank? How do you deal with sugar crystallizing on the walls of the tank when you can't open it?
