    I checkerboard my hives every spring as soon as temperature become warmer and stabilize.It is a great way to rotate out old brood comb.

    Surgical gloves works well,they are puncture resistent and you can still handle queens well with them.

    Feed your bees if it warm enough this give them a jump start after a long winter and relives some stress on their part add H-B-H to you syrup to get them healthly for the coming honey flow.

    I have used tobacco leaves for years in a smoker to calm them,if you don't over smoke them it works quite well and does not harm them.
