Sticky: Re: State by State Bee Laws

You need to look at your local ordinances. I know of no State regulations about this. Don't know if I would ask too many questions though, sometimes it is easier to beg forgiveness than to seek...

    Re: MAP 21 ?

GVM is 25950. Previously NC Farm Tags had a 150 mile restriction and no Out of State. I live close to SC border and have violated the restriction numerous times, so far with no problem.... just...

    Re: MAP 21 ?

So I can drive my Farm Tags more that 150 miles from home and out of State? Sounds like I could drive my FT to CA...... or am I just off base?

Re: Pollination Off a 16' trailer

No that is not quite what I said. With an average honey yield of 40 lbs per hive it is difficult to make a profit. One can make some honey, but keep track of your costs and labor and see what your...
  6. Re: Where do you take the bees after almonds if you summer in Montana or Dakotas

True, they do not need bees, but I think he is just referring to the variety of orchards/vineyards in that area.
  7. Re: Supering question as your operation gets larger?

Shipping container and gassem. A bit dangerous, but if you know what you are doing it's reasonable. Many beekeepers from the North will not understand the plague of SHB/WM that southern beekeepers...

Re: Pollination Off a 16' trailer

I can only speak for blueberrys, I have heard tales of northern apple pollination where the grower wants you to aim the hive at certain trees....LOL.

Down here with the tiny flow and summer heat,...

Around here 20-24 would be normal. I have placed 75 in one place, so more or less the norm.

Pretty much whatever your imagination and engineering skills can come up with. I have seen pictures of some interesting European ones, often times they are stacked on top of each other. I should...

    Re: NYS Apiary Inspector 1

Pretty sure. Must be a Typo. It does not make any sense if not. Why penalize the small guy? Of course I have no idea of what kind of logic goes on in NYS bureaucracy.

    Re: NYS Apiary Inspector 1

My o My.... they must be really clamoring to get that job up in NY. That sounds like a boat load of restrictions for a small salary, maybe if they were talking big bucks..... still... I wonder if...

    Re: Queen Bank for 12

That's odd... I bank mine on top of queen right hives and have had no problems. Sometimes keeping them there as long as 1 month. I do spray them with sugar water occasionally.

    Re: Southbound 2012

No I would not do it either, but my bees are not making brood nor are they pollen starved. His colonies will soon be much more populous than mine.... and should consume a patty pretty fast....or...

    Re: Southbound 2012

Mark's bees have probably been relatively pollenless since sometime in Sept, arriving here they were also broodless. WIth our avg temp of about 70 degrees I suspect they are producing ;brood...

Mark has asked me to post his new honey label here for constructive criticism. So here it is. Click it for the big view. Will this sell honey........ or scare people..... :)

I don't know. I just know that in this land of high humidity if you do not keep the dehumidifier going full blast in the honey house you will wind up with a mess....

Re: What Percent of Hives Are Feral vs Kept

Is it "Wrongheaded" for a husbandryman to treat for parasites. If my flock of sheep has worms, should I not drench them.... or should I let them die and select from the emaciated survivors?
