    Re: 40" Nylon Spatula alternative

Correct, the bottom is concave/convex in shape and around the rim I can get down in there with a regular spatula, but with 40" I don't get honey all over me.

    40" Nylon Spatula alternative

Instead of paying a big box beekeeping store $50+ up for a spatula for your tanks, it looks like Atlanta Fixture has them for $15.55 each. No, I do not work for them, just trying to pass savings...
  4. Re: Do not feed to infants less than 1 year, how about Elderly and Immunocompromised?

Dave, thanks for clearing that up for me, makes perfect sense.
  5. Do not feed to infants less than 1 year, how about Elderly and Immunocompromised?

Since its evident not to feed infants less than 1 year old because their gut is not fully developed (lowered immune system) and run the risk of botulism, then why do you not see warnings for...

    Re: Online honey sales

I'm subscribing to this thread as well, and I hope you don't mind me partially hijacking the thread Adam, but if I could add a few things?

Online experiences (returns, anyone ran into laws to...
  7. Re: When should I take my supers off to prepare for winter?

Went to the bee club tonight. The majority of the beekeepers will take all the supers off right now and extract for themselves and run 2 deeps and throw some varroa treatments on and call it a...
  8. Re: Looking for overwintering yard down south, Interested?

I don't know if SE Kentucky is south enough for you. "London Kentucky" 3 miles off I-75 (zip 40741). 45 miles from top of TN. I have two yards within 20 miles each. 100 acres on one farm and 50 on...
  9. Re: My homemade extractor - 4 frame radial for about $60

This is awesome! The bottom bearing placement was something I was curious about. Cutting board.... great idea!
  10. Re: Walmart colander with bucket brackets for straining honey

The farberware one worked perfect for the 3 gallon "icing" buckets that walmart had. Very sturdy. For those that don't know, go to the deli at walmart and ask for the cake icing buckets. They ran...
  11. Re: Really confused on what to do with extra stores in supers

Some beekeepers will say yes, some will say no. Personally I wouldn't harvest it as I'm trying to prevent the same issue happening with me with this thread. Lets see what others have to say.
  12. Re: Really confused on what to do with extra stores in supers

One of my concerns was apiguard cross contaminating the supers that I would leave on during the winter. Local beekeepers take "all" supers off this time of year and put a dose of apiguard down, then...

I'm hanging my head down low now..... I disabled cookies as well. Sorry about that Barry.

    Same with me.

It appears there is a bug with vb4 for session timeout. Hopefully this link will help the admins.

I see what you did there.
  16. I get logged out before I get 2 paragraphs typed

I'm a very fast keyer and I have noticed that I get logged out of my account before I can get less than 250 words on the screen. What I have been doing is typing in notepad and pasting it after I...
  17. Which accounting method do you run to track sales and expenses?

Which accounting method do you run to track sales and expenses? I want to track sales and service as well as expenses for tax year. Very small at this point but want to to be 100% accurate. I was...
  18. Really confused on what to do with extra stores in supers

Since beekeepers in my area say they go into winter with only double deeps on their hives, I have researched that you should go into winter with at least 100 pounds of stores for my area. If a deep...
  19. When should I take my supers off to prepare for winter?

Beekeepers in my area (E. Kentucky) have extracted their supers and reduced their hives down to double deeps and added varroa meds for the year. This seems odd to me since we still have goldenrod...

  21. Re: Walmart colander with bucket brackets for straining honey

Good point, didn't measure it. I did however go to the bakery and asked for used icing buckets, which were $1 each (purchased 5 of them). I'll go ahead and purchase this anyway and test with the...
  22. Walmart colander with bucket brackets for straining honey

Since I don't want to pay $55 for a bucket strainer from big box bee companies, I ran across these two strainers from local walmart (I dislike going there).

Anyway, the prices for the Oneida was...
  23. Honey for Food Stamps, EBT, Farmers Market Cards, Payments, etc....

Re: Harvesting Honey Soon - Looking for input

Make sure the leaf blower exhaust doesn't go out the same way the air is going or you will have motor oil tasting honey. If possible, use electric, or brush away the bees frame per frame and set...
