    Re: Aggressive bees

They can also get extremely aggressive if queenless. The queen could have been damaged.

    Re: Moving a swarm

You can just close up the hive for 2-3 days and they typically won't return to the original hive anymore.
  4. Re: Will queen survive if cell is broken?

    Thanks guys!
  5. Will queen survive if cell is broken?

One of my hives decided to swarm and then got back inside the hive within 2 hours. So I decided to perform an inspection and make a split if I find queen cells. I did, I found at least two queen...

  8. Re: Petition: Direct the EPA to ban the use of Neonicotinoid pesticides

I am very glad that you still have bees, but hope you're not offering that honey to anyone. In case you do sell honey, make sure to label it as such: "honey from corn with neonicatinoid pesticides...

I don't claim that it is THE CAUSE, but I do believe that it is the straw that broke the camel's back.
These studies on neonicotinoids do show that they negatively impact the health of honeybees...

  12. Re: Petition: Direct the EPA to ban the use of Neonicotinoid pesticides

Why don't you create a petition for them?

Neonics become part of the plant... I have not seen many Eagles or Ospreys collecting pollen or nectar on corn.

Apparently you have not even looked at...
  13. Re: Petition: Direct the EPA to ban the use of Neonicotinoid pesticides

Imidacloprid is 7297x more toxic to honeybees than DDT (acute toxicity). However, acute toxicity is not the main problem. Imidacloprid is highly persistent (160 days halflife time in water, 2 years...

    Re: Backyard Beeyard

Understand. Seeing them fly I do believe that a 6-10 ft space in front of a hive is good to have for their "landing strip".

Sometimes I wish my 4 year old would get stung! One time I caught him...

    Re: How to fix comb?

I like the idea. Will try. I did not notice any brood on the comb so I wonder if the queen is there or not. Perhaps giving them a frame that has young brood will do a double duty.
