    Xen Bari

I just bought this off of amazon, and either I can't read or the directions aren't on there. How much dry powder to water to use to stop wax moths? I'm looking to make up just a gallon at a time. ...
  2. Re: MANY, MANY Swarms this year. Would you agree?

Wow. Didn't realize that Alabama's losses were so high. But then, I'm a hobbiest. Flow barely tapering off here, but the bees are all over the oak leaf hydrangeas! Clover doing okay, but we need...
  3. Re: MANY, MANY Swarms this year. Would you agree?

Not had any trouble with my bees, but I've stayed on top of them. On the other hand, I've gotten 6 swarms this year, latest one yesterday. It puzzles me because we are on a good flow, and white wax...
  4. I have a couple of "problems" and looking for advice

Problem one: With my 7 production hives, I now have a total of 25 honey super in them. All are built out comb and packed with nectar. Only a few frames have started to cap, and those not all the...

    Question about cell size

First off, this has nothing to do with a flow frame, except for reference. I'm running a single deep brood box with shallows for honey gathering. I'm not out of room in my brood boxes, but in 2 of...
  6. Re: Anyone know what this piece of bee equipment is?

Based on the heating coils wrapped around the outside of the bucket, I would say it's a warming bucket for the honey for easier bottling. I've seen similar on the main beekeeping stores websites.

Re: Effects of prolonged rain on hive?

I'm in the rainy spot too. Forecast is for 10 days of this. :(. Concerning swarms; I thought that according to Walt, reproductive swarm season ends when you first start seeing white wax. I am/was...

Sticky: Re: Please Post your Swarm Dates?

Small swarm in swarm trap today. Hived this evening with strong storms due tonight. White wax starting. I am definitely on the beginning of the spring flow!

Re: Need face mask now have COPD?

I'm going to take off my beekeeper hat and put on my nurse's hat. I am a nurse for a pulmonologist with 10 plus years and I do see COPD everyday.

The main answer is yes. You don't need a full...

    Re: Cold weather buildup

I actually started out last year with 4 hives. I caught four swarms and made 4 Nucs from the first main four. I've learned the value of nuc combining back into weak hives and combining other hives...

And they wonder why us semi- newbies quit. :ws: Going into my third year and I was kinda hoping to see the "normal" year all those wonderful books keep talking about.

    Re: Cold weather buildup

I'm located in a fairly suburban area. But except for daffodils (which just started) there isn't much out there. No field crops, just lawns, oak trees, basic suburban yards. Can't count on any one...

    Re: Cold weather buildup

I've got daffodils blooming now! It's just figuring out the buildup timing. James Spann is talking about bad roads tommorow night and something else coming in next weekend. Flow usually hits...

    Cold weather buildup

Alright, I know cold is relative to those in the north, nut I still have some questions. 2 weeks ago, Alabama was in the 60's and I was feeding my hives like crazy for the spring flow. Nice brood...

    Building up single deeps

For those of you that run single deeps, how do you build up the population/feed them in prep for the main flow? Do you put on a medium or shallow for them to store pollen/ stores before the main...

    Re: Inspections question

Our main flow hits around 4/15. I'd like to start brooding them up, but it's still to cold at night to feed the 1:1. They just won't take it. I'm open feeding them when I can, but I need some...

Re: Noobie looking for cheapest hive kit

My 2 year old advice for whatever it's worth. Don't go the cheap route. The boards will warp or be full of knot holes. Joints will be " off" and not fit. Either build it yourself or go to a...

    Re: Second deep backfilling

I should say also that I'm really not interested in splits to control the swarming. I'm after the impossible, I know. Strong hives at their peak that will actually work on drawing out the shallows....

    Re: Second deep backfilling

My problem last year was that I did open the brood nest. I couldn't officially checkerboard for lack of drawn frames. In doing this, I didn't have a swarming problem, but I seemed every empty frame...

Does anyone have any recommendations for any outdoor chest freezer? I only have a side by side fridge that can't hold frames. There's no room inside for a freezer and no garage/ outbuilding/...

Re: When to do whAt with over wintered nucs?

I'm sure there may be stories out there, but has anyone found that building up a 5 frame Nuc by just adding boxes more efficient then 10 frame deep? Do bees tend to want to go out or up better?
