    Re: Soap fails

My wife and I have been soaping for about two years. Your first batches sound quite similar to ours. Making soap with Honey and Beeswax is very difficult in my opinion. They add alot to the whole...
  2. Re: Has wind ever taken out any of your hives before?

Several years ago we had gusts over 60 mph, and in the middle of the night, a strong gust hit and knocked over three hives. I heard the gust hit the front of our house and it woke me up, I looked out...
  3. Re: Has anyone read Gilles Fert's book "Breeding Queens"?

I have been trying to order a copy and we were just informed that the English version is sold out.

He didn't provide any future plans of a reprint. Perhaps with enough interest this could be...
  4. Re: wintering - how many deeps for northeast ohio?

I overwinter in the equivalent of two deeps(3 mediums) for winter. I still check them by listening to the side of the box throughout the winter to see how high they have gone. If they reach the top...

    Re: Late Swarm

A little smoke at the entrance might give you some indication. Robbers, in my experience act way different than bees that have taken up home. I see robbers scatter with just a little smoke. They stay...
  6. Re: Possible location for bees? pesticide and deer concern

A doe and her fawns frequent in between our hives. She beds down right in amongst them with no problems at all.
My game camera shows them there at night eating the grass and weeds that grow up...

Re: Can I use an extractor to spin cappings.

I bought the brushy mountain cappings bags and the wire inserts and used them for the first time about a month ago. They worked awesome in my Maxant 1400P. You just need to load the three bags evenly...

    Re: CNC machinist wanted

You may want to concider looking for someone that has a CNC burning table, or a CNC plasma cutter. This could be a burn out and work just fine. The same DFX file would be needed. Flame cuts are far...

Re: Bad beekeeping, worse TV reporting

I am curious if he really has bees in those hives. It doesn't appear to have outer covers on them. He said he had bees and now he doesn't. Maybe he moved them or the colonies died and he has stacked...

  14. Re: Any videos on actual grafting? 5 attempts, 3 takes, 1 mated queen...

We use the Jenter system which is very similar to nicot.
I use a plastic queen clip to catch the queen in and then place it over the hole in my Jenter system and let her walk right in. I usually...

You can use dry ice to apply Co2. Simply place it in the top and close it up. As stated above Co2 is heavier and drops.
