  1. Re: Is it safe to combine a very weak queen right nuc

That's what I ended up doing. But it's not the same thing. You have to catch her, and cage her and put her in the queenless hive. there is some risk catching and caging, and I don't do that often....
  2. Re: New Queen bee and colony attached by other bee hive

I lost several this year the same way. when you start a nuc, make sure the entrance is only 1 bee width, I started adding a frame of honey from last year as putting a feeder on a weak nuc is a...

  4. Is it safe to combine a very weak queen right nuc

Is it safe to combine a very weak queen right nuc and a very strong queenless hive? I'm thinking about doing a paper combine. I could cage the queen and introduce her that way, but there is risk...

    Re: Chicken Coop recommendations???

If you build one, build the roosts well of the ground so you can put a shelf under it and put in poop trays. 90% of the poop in the coop comes while the chickens are roosting, The ability to take...

Thanks JRG13 and David. Sounds very reasonable to me, and worth a try for me the next go round.
  7. Re: Don't ever get to big for your britches or count your chickens before they hatch

My two best queens EVER, were two queen hives.... Found them both, after having caught the queen, and went to split frames of brood and stumbled onto second queens....

Bees abandon nuc with frames full of brood

I tried to create some nucs last week, the same way I've done it in the past. Take a full frame of bees with brood, put them in a nuc with a frame of stores and add a caged queen the next day.
    In...

    Re: Dead Out Numbers/Winter Losses

I lost 2 out of 14 with a third that is queenless and will probably die out before I can get a queen for them. First time I've ever lost a hive, No fun at all....

Re: To stand or not to stand?

I put 4 4x4s in the ground 8' apart. cut them off level and add 2X4 crossbars to set the hives on. I put two hives, one on each end and use the middle as a place to set hive bodies and not squash...

Re: Swarm traps and drawen comb

I've read that you can spray comb with BT and it will kill wax moths larva. I've got some, haven't tried yet, but a lot of people keep comb out in the open by spraying it with Bacillus...

    Feeding frames of honey

I've got some honey frames frozen from last year. I'd like to feed them back to boost the build up. I've read that they aren't as likely to use capped honey? Should I de-cap the frames before I...

    Re: Ready , Set , Spring !

My maples are in full bloom now. Can hives starve to death once the maples are blooming? I can see that numbers are already building, but we've still had very cold and rainy weather thru this week.

Re: Why isn't she being attacked??

That's usually what I do, right up until you get a mean hive. I can't walk by my hives 40 feet away now. Going to suit up and pop the tops. First one that comes out in force to try to kill me,...

I'm going to start next week as I can tell my hives are building. I've got a question, is it more effective to force the HOLE, or if I've got empty comb, use that? You loss the forced...
