    Re: Another Winter disaster........

    Late cold weather. Starvation.
Give had 50-60 lbs of honey before winter.
Had enclosure all the way around and on top.
Noticed mice moved in and might have stunk them out. Only a dozen bodies...

    Re: Is it worth a Re-Queen ?

Then why would putting some bees from other hives into it help the cause?
    Wouldn't they return home?

    Re: Is it worth a Re-Queen ?

Am going to try a re-queen. There are many bees from the other hives going in/out of the entrance on their own. Wonder when it's re-queened if they'll step up and go help ??

    Re: Is it worth a Re-Queen ?

Is there anyone in my area that's willing to do a Russian split?
That's likely my only solution. Can't see other bees helping out. Is it possible?

    Is it worth a Re-Queen ?

2 of 3 hives didn't make it through winter, the last remaining one has a few hundred Russian bees left in the honeycomb box. No brood in hive and no queen either. Is it worth a re-queen or are they...

    Re: Bee poop question

    K.
Feces not watery. Mostly blobs under top entrance, nothing stringy. We had a miserable below zero winter and still persists this week. Want to use the 30-40 pounds of honey in hive for new...

    Re: Bee poop question

After some research and a 2nd look, it doesn't appear or sound like Nosema.

The yellow watery stuff is not apparent and no bees on ground. All are in the honeycomb and look, act normal as I can...

    Bee poop question

Lost my 3rd and final hive to winter. There are a few left inside the honeycomb. About 30-40 pounds honey left inside.
My question is, there is some runny mess outside of the top entrance. Is this...

    Re: Slushy hive entrance

None of them are insulated, yet have snow drifts 4' tall around them and green giant arborvitae for wind protection. In high winds there seems to be a pocket of non flowing air where the hives sit.

There's one thing I've learned all these years, is that my hives are blind to flowers within 50' of the hives. Had them in between my apple trees in the shade and those trees got ignored. Moved...

Just found out that used coffee grounds deter ants and bees love rummaging through these early spring.
