  1. Re: First cutout - what to do with bucket full of bees??

I'm pretty sure it is illegal to sell cutout honey in most if not all the states.
Keep in mind that a removal will run about 6-7 hours with prep, to cutout, to final clean up back at the shop. Free...

    Re: Georgia Cut Out

IF you do the cutout, do not combine for a few weeks. If the bees were sprayed, you will know by then how the hive will progress.
Swarms are the only thing I remove for free within a 15 mile...

    Re: quit feeding?

A split done properly with stores and bees should not need to be fed. Everything should be split 50/50 or close to. Good luck with the bees.

    Re: Chewing up foundation

A robbed out hive will also look like that as well.
  5. Re: First cutout - what to do with bucket full of bees??

I found that this design works well for many stiuations. It may be a bit combersome, but it is very versitile.

  6. Re: packages installed on "stocked" deeps, why feed?

Mediums. I run mediums for everything.
A typical swarm would relish the room a ten frame deep provides. Some of the swarms I caught were of the 5-6 lb. range. Two mediums are perfect for them.

    Re: Cut out help

Your best bet it to combine at this point.
  9. Re: packages installed on "stocked" deeps, why feed?

I never feed and the bees do just fine. Bees know what they are doing far more than we do.
I also hive the bees (swarms) on drawn comb. Drawn comb collecting dust on the shelf is doing nothing for...

    Re: odor in honey

Sounds to me like they had too much uncapped honey when harvesting and it fermented. I had a similar experience with Smuckers Honey. Man was it bad.
    I'd ask for a refund.

    Re: need some advice..

You need to work on the way you talk to people. Disrespectful is an understatement. I couldn't stand to listen to it anymore on the third vid so I turned it off.

Re: oh great, a swarm on August 27

I caught one just a couple of days ago also. I had to use my bee vac and placed drawn supers above the vac. The next day they moved into the hive next door to them. My guess is that they were...
  13. Re: Storing supers and frames between seasons

    First, clean the garage. lol
Second, store the frames in the supers and stack the supers 90 degrees (so you can see through them horizontally) as you would normally on the hive. Moths (mice and...
  14. Re: One shot wasp poison sprayed on cut out. What to do?

Nothing can be done given the senario. IF it was a good sized hive with population to match AND a laying queen, you might be able to save it. I've done it a few times, but quarantined the hive for a...

    Re: need some advice..

We are all in over our head on the first one.....sometimes the second.... but by the third we got a pretty good handle on the removals. Or so we think.
After a couple of hundred, it's second nature.
  16. Re: What a difference between flow and dearth in behavior.

There is a very small window here when we have a dearth each year. Maybe, maybe three weeks. After that, the goldenrod blooms like there's no tomorrow. Typically I can stand in front of the hives and...

    Re: need some advice..

Prepare to get lit up by the bees. Removals are not any fun this time of year. I shut down removals around August 1st because they will act like africanized bees after that. In our neck of the woods,...

Sticky: Re: Please Post your Swarm Dates?

I got a call on a 5 lb. swarm in an apple tree yesterday. These will be a good addition to a weaker (possibly queenless) hive just in time for goldenrod.
  20. Re: going to have one last cut out this year

I have a few vids of inside removals on YouTube and on my FB page. It just might help. Be warned though that this time of year bees are really defensive. I stop all removals as of Aug 1st and...

Re: Arrangement of hives in an apiary...

Two rows of hives is not a good idea. You will be standing in the bee line while inspecting the front hives.
Myself, orientation of the hives is not really a concern. Place them back to back with...
  22. Re: First and Last year since no one can play nice

I am positive you will find a better location for the little stingers. All is not lost.
I know first hand that later in the season (especially in a dearth) the bees get REAL defensive. They have...

    Re: Storing drawn out frames?

I keep the frames in the supers and stack them on the faces so you can see through them. Never had a problem yet.
  25. Re: Will a hive abscond because of no stores?

My guess is that robbing pressure made them fly the coop.
