Re: I won a NUC !!! But it won't fit?

Or you could make med size boxes to put on top so they will expand upward. Using the med frames of brood to jump start your larger hives.

Re: Can I put fish in a water source?

Sure you can. And 2 will last longer than a single. Gold fish will eat the algea also. no aireation is needed if they have some shade and not too big a population of fish.

Re: Methods to Combat Hive Beetles

Re: New member from Central Alabama

Welcome. A strong hive will take care of a limited numbers of them up to about 50 or so. When the hive is weak is when they are a problem. The oil trap helps.

Bees cleaning the dead from a dwindle.

There was no pollen coming in but a few bees leaving and returning. From the inspection today there were no bees on the frames of honey or the mountain camp supply. I think the hive had queen issues...

    Re: homemade frames...

And we can all say A-men. Unless you are doing it for a special size box. Then it could be to your advantage to roll your own.
    May the honey flow.

    Re: narrow frame?

the narrow ones are for the brood box so there is one more frame in the brood nest. in the supers some run 7 frames in an 8 frame box so the comb is built out wider for more honey storage and easier...

Re: sugar water age, and dcoates tops ..

Taste it. If it fermented you will know it is not good for the bees. Also is it not too cold there to feed a water based food?

  22. Re: Newbie wanting to acquire my bees by swarm trap

I would suggest a nuk instead. You would get frames with comb and brood plus the bees. A package comes without anything for them to start on. Spend a few more dollars but you are way ahead.
    Also...
  23. Re: Newbie wanting to acquire my bees by swarm trap

I also had one swarm out of nine empty traps. Was worth putting them up even for the one. I think it came in to my box with motivation to make it and it has so far. But I wouldn't count on it to get...
