We have had very heavy rains the last few days. I recieved a phone call from a fellow beekeeper who lives near my parent's house ( where my bees are).
He told me that one of my hives looked to be...
I think kelly's sells some aluminum topd for hive covers.
You guys are really talking me into that one...
Maybe I will just wait and try to save some up some extra cash and pick it up next year.
I think I will start with the hand-crank version.

I had considered this one as well. It's a little bit out of my price range at the moment. Maybe I can talk the wife out of some more money.. LOL :D

I agree 100%. I had heartburn for years. I had to stop eating bananas drinking OJ. I would get terrible heart burn if I ate them. Then I happened upon my eye doc's sister who is a chiropractor. She...
I thought about placing a hive in my back yard. My concern was about the mosquito spraying that my city does. They come by in big trucks and spray crap all over the place. They tell us to go inside...

I have made batches of mead as small as 1 gallon and they turned out just as good as my larger batches. I am not a big drinker so I usually scale it down to 3 gallons or less anyway. I also don't...
You have summed up what my thoughts are been about the situation.
There is also one more upside that you forgot to mention. No more money spent of foundation.
Having the hive level does make sense. I will be sure to check them and level if need be. I hadn't thought of that. I bet they could make a mess in an empty box if they took a mind to.
Thanks for the help.
I am sure I will be back here again with more questions.
I decided to start beekeeping as a secondary to making mead. I figured it would be cheaper not to have to buy...
Man I bet you have some really tasty stuff there.. I have some sourwood mean I made earlier this year and it is wonderfull.
Unless your mead is contaminated with bacteria it should clear up on...
I am planning this in a standard Langstroth hive. The bees can attach the comb to the sides of the frames and it's easier to remove. I think this will provide me with the best of both worlds.

I currently have two hives. One is from a package that I purchased from a local beekeeper and the other is from a swarm I picked up earlier this year. They are both currently in 2 deeps each with...
