    Re: what are they doing?

If there is a queen, give them a frame of honey, & a frame of capped brood with nurse bees.
They should build up for you.

    Re: What is raw honey?

I looked for that answer for a long time. Some states do have definitions of raw honey.
The most common answer seemed to be. Not heated over 115F, & not filtered. It may be strained to remove bee...

I'm doing just as poorly here with 14 hives in two very different areas.
    Everyone is blaming the drought.

If you're concerned about SHB's, fill in the groove with beeswax otherwise leave it alone.

    Re: Furious bees

There are several different types of honey bees in the different regions of Africa. It sounds like you're area has the more docile variety of bees.

Re: How often do you go into your hive.....

Every 3-4 weeks. That gives you enough time to fix a problem if one arises.

Re: Bees under screened Bottom board - swarm?

Another thing to consider is that,
Swarms sometimes land under bottom boards & try to take over the existing hive. Eventually they ball the resided queen & their queen takes over the throne.

Been using it about 6 years. You need warm sunny weather for the fume board to gas the product.
    Very Happy with the product.

  14. Re: are flying virgin queens always followed by a drone comet?

The normal thing is for the queen to fly several miles away from you're hive & drones before mating. This is how they prevent inbreeding with drones that are related.
  15. Re: are flying virgin queens always followed by a drone comet?

I don't think it was the queen either. The few times I've witnessed queens returning from flights it was around noon, a large number of drones returned to the hives with her.

Re: Source of Late Fall Varroa Load

Mites reproduce more prolifically in drone brood producing at least one more daughter than they do in worker brood. Therefore a lack of drone brood does not explain the increase in mite numbers. It...

  18. Re: I Extracted Honey; What should I do with my frames?

I spray mine with BT azawaii while they are still wet. then stack them with space underneath for air circulation.
Put them back on the hives in the spring.
  19. Re: Why do they build only drone comb if I use foundationless next to foundation?

You're bees need one or two frames of drones. Leave them there & the next frames will be drawn for worker brood.
