    i would also practice on drones first. you don't want to damage your only queen of your only hive. so definetly wait till she is laying, just in case you damage her, they can raise a new one.

    if you are in a dearth, try feeding 1:1 syrup to simulate a flow. i had the same problem, as soon as i started to feed, she started to lay.

    I have not done it yet personally, but many have , much farther north than you. I'm hoping to overwinter a 5 on 5 medium nuc this winter in MD.
