    Re: Foundationless frame question....

Assume the desire is to be all foundationless and no comb is available. Could you wrap a couple of frames in newspaper to create a temporary guide? Sort of a follower board. Would they just make a...
  3. Re: Thoughts and views of plastic vs. metal excluders.

I'm getting ready to modify some for my long hives. Is filling in with foam better than solid wood? Does it help eliminate gaps from uneven edges?

    Re: First check of 2015

I grew up in Kansas; I've had a bit of experience with a snow shovel and ice. It is one of the reasons i'm in Texas.

Unfortunately, people down here don't even know how to drive in a little rain....

Don't spill LGO in your tool box..... I've also found they locate used queen clips quickly.

Mine are still coming back with pollen. The way this weather is going, they may think it is spring already.

    Re: switching breeds?

I like the ones with lights instead of stingers... If only they produced a honey crop. :D
  12. Poll: Re: Treat for Varroa mites or let them suffer & die..........

I'm undecided about treatments, so I'll not jump into that debate. However, bees are insects NOT human or anything even close. Animals, farm product or pets, are NOT human. Physical pain can...

Re: Bomb Cyclone to hit US next week

We always have road construction; even when it is "winter" with temps in the 30-40 range. :D it was forecast to freeze, but didn't make it down to 35. I think there is a lot of buffering in the...
  17. Re: November bee retrieval: How give them the best chance to make it through the wint

If it isn't feasible to move their comb, maybe you could extend the opening into a nuc with pvc; like a trapout without the cone. That would give space for feeding and expansion without ruining the...

    Re: Brushy Mountain Shipping

Oh come on. It is only an 500+ mile/8 hour trip to the Paris store and you would get to pay sales tax also. :) By the way, you would drive past a Mann Lake reseller on the way.

Re: Follower boards to reduce 10 frame hive

I certainly don't disagree with your definitions, but this means "follower boards" are used incorrectly all over the place. One example is http://outyard.weebly.com/follower-board.html and on KTBH...

  23. Re: You can't teach an old, frame hive beekeeper, new tricks

That comb looks really nice! You could do a cut-out and put it into a lang. :)
