I keep my Ultrabreeze full suit in my truck all year, and the elastic in the ankle & wrist cuffs is as good as new after 2 years. The mesh is the way to go, no heat stroke or stings :)

I put my suit sleeves over the gloves to keep them out (I wear an Ultrabreeze suit and the sleeves have velcro/elastic in the cuffs.)
I can vouch for guineas as an effective tick control method; I've had them for about 12 years now and we don't have ticks any more. I got them initially to control the tick population around here...
I have an Ultrabreeze full suit and wash the suit without the hood (it zips off) in the washing machine on the delicate cycle (I use detergent and bleach) - be sure to zip up the body and legs. I...
That is so cool! I lived in San Antonio, TX (Brooks AFB) when I was a little kid, and had a pet hornytoad; haven't seen one in about 40 years now. Thanks for bringing back memories!
Yes - I used to wear regular dishwashing gloves (that the bees can sting through) but recently switched to True Blue dishwashing gloves; they are cotton lined and thin enough to manipulate frames,...
I have an Ultrabreeze full suit and have never been stung through it or had bees find their way inside. They have a 3XL size; you can look on their site to see the measurements (they used to do...
All of the cutouts I've done that involved a bee vac were very aggressive; they also smelled like bananas! It helps if you can place a frame with some open brood/eggs in the hive with them; it will...
Steven,
I have to access their site using Internet Explorer; can't get there from Google (our state game & fish site is the same way here); try IE & see if that works.
I have a frame of mostly pollen that I removed from a weak hive that had what appeared to be newly hatched hive beetle larvae in some of the pollen cells. I've currently got this frame in the...
Sorry, didn't realize it was plaster. Silicone caulk may work, it sticks to almost everything (might be able to embed the wire into the caulk & stick it to the plaster). I did some really tough cut...
Sorry about your bees leaving; that's a real bummer :( I've never gotten a package; only a nuc, swarms & cutouts. Offer a jar of honey to anyone who calls you about a swarm that you are able to...
I brush mine off with a turkey wing feather; works really well & the bees don't attack it like the bee brush.
I wouldn't drill unless I was certain of what was behind the plywood, since you have water and electrical lines there (although you may be able to use a hole saw without the pilot bit and be OK). ...
I've not had any problems with my chickens/guineas/turkeys bothering the bees. I wouldn't put the hives near the birds if they are confined in a pen though (I have a large fenced chicken yard but...
Ed, try adding a frame of open brood when you catch a swarm; I haven't had a swarm leave that I've done this with. I will add the disclaimer that I have only had bees for two years, so I'm still...
Yes, had two swarm on me after I had the tops off this week; fortunately they didn't do far or high & I was able to catch them. Wish I had a video camera; they are so cool looking when they swarm! ...
The nectar flow is on in south AL, and has been for about 3 weeks now. Swarm season has also been going on for about 3 weeks now (at my location). I've only added supers in the past week; if you...
I got them at World Market, but they are available on the internet (Amazon has them); they are heavy duty dishwashing gloves so they may also be available in department stores that sell kitchen stuff.
I am a glove-wearer (I know it's not for everyone but it works for me) and wanted to pass on information on some sting-proof gloves that I now use - they are True Blue Gloves, and are thin enough to...
I don't think that the two swarms I've got were stragglers; they had enough bees to cover every frame in a 5 frame deep nuc. I figured I had the queen since the bees that remained in the tree/bush...
I've caught six swarms last week, but two of them do not appear to have a queen. The bees began fanning at the hive entrance when I hived them so I thought all was well, but they aren't making much...
We use Orthene here, and it works very well. Mind you, it's terribly expensive and you have to liberally apply it to the mound (I poke several holes in the paper container cover and sprinkle it like...
I used a sugar water mist in lieu of the smoker most of the time my first year, so I could observe the bees without undue disruption. Mr Bush is correct; smoke is much better. I use pine straw/pine...
Dr. Russell, I got a Sunkist nuc last summer that exploded - overwintered 4 deeps high (10 frame), completely drawn out (I had planned to split the hive, but the cold weather arrived before I could...
