Re: Queen cage candy hole or no?

I never would have thought to puncture the candy except I saw it on several YouTube videos. I am glad I asked here.

Re: Queen cage candy hole or no?

I am going to introduce a queen to bees from a trapout. I guess I should leave the candy in tact.

Queen cage candy hole or no?

When introducing a queen, how important is it to poke a hole through the candy in the queen cage? Will it take them a lot longer to eat through the candy without the hole?

    Re: trapout with no brood?

After I install the funnel, will the bees in the trap act queenless, or will they still feel part of the hive in the tree?

    Re: Dog and bee rescue

The family has only been there a few months. They didn't know the bees were there. I need to go evaluate their temperament, and then I can decide to trap or remove.

    Re: Dog and bee rescue

I haven't heard about the dogs yet. I will post when I hear about them. When I left, one of the dogs was fine, and the vet was hopeful about the other one.

    Re: trapout with no brood?

Thanks for the info SS1 and Cleo. I will try to get as many bees as possible in the trap (without the funnel at first, and then with the funnel installed) before my queen arrives. I have three weeks....

    Re: trapout with no brood?

I was planning a hogan style trapout, but I don't have any brood now. There are no bee clubs in my area and no other bee keepers in my county. I talked to a couple of guys an hour away, but they...

    Dog and bee rescue

I got a call yesterday from the sheriff's office asking for help with some angry bees. When I got there, two dogs were being attacked. One wasn't moving. I moved the dogs about 100 yards away, and...

    trapout with no brood?

I told a guy I would get rid of his bees in his tree, but my one and only hive(from a cutout last year) has no brood or eggs at all. Can I trap some bees and bring them back to my yard and give them...

    Bee droppings

Every time I put honey equipment out to be cleaned by the bees, I end up with lots of tiny dots on the equipment. Is this bee waste?

Re: Sources for DIY extractor barrel

You can cut the bottom off a 5 gal bucket and place it inside another one to make it taller. Just don't fill it past the bottom bucket.

    Re: cutout comb orientation

It does look like an egg. I wish I had taken some video. I will have to do a better job inspecting and documenting next time. Every time I take my bee suit off I think of something I wish I had done.

    Moving hive in winter?

If a bee's memory is 3 days, can you move the hive a few hundred yards in the winter when temps have been below 50 for several days?

    Re: cutout comb orientation

I remembered that most of the frames I looked at had uncapped honey, so I looked at another picture I have of that frame, and I think those white spots are the sun's glare on the honey in the cells....
