Jean-Marc is right. A lot longer than ten years tho. Australia has even worse water issues to deal with then we do here in Ca tho! I would worry about our neighbors to the south. All that fresh fruit...
Wow! Guess you stumped everyone Jack. Or maybe no one is making honey!
My hives were in an orchard that was sprayed 3 times, during the day. Once with Pristine. Like L. Mike, my bees look really good. Guess wait and see.
SIDE NOTE... Give almond growers some...
Brookyln,
Yes the tonnage is accurate/correct. There were huge, huge, plantings of almond acreage. I guess thats why pollination prices went from the $45 per hive range to $150.
WOW PLB! Thats why it was phrased as a question. So, are you saying it is a waste of time requeening with queen cells. Or that the old queen must be found and killed before adding the cell?
Thanks everyone! So, can a ripe queen cell be placed in a hive you want to requeen without finding and killing the old queen? Or will the workers destroy it?
What happens to the old queen? When a queen is supurceded, the workers in the hive build supercedure cups that the queen lays in, cells are nurtured capped and... When the first virgin hatches, does...
Thanks Hambone. I saw a pic in ABJ of a commercial beek using inverted pails, looked to be 2 -3 gallons, stacked on top of one another on a pallet. The bees looked to be feeding from the rim of where...
How does the inverted five gallon bucket work? Or how is it made?
I've tried using 2 liter bottles with light syrup. One small hole in the plastic cap, burped the bottle once inverted, but when the sun warms the bottle all the syrup runs out. Any advice?
dBest,
Are you using that style screened pallet? How do you like them? Better than solid floor?
thanks, Mike
Hambone, Maybe my bees are picky, but they wouln't touch it. Now Mega Bee is a different story.
My two cents worth: the Brood Builder isn't worth 2 cent's!
any ideas?
Looking for an inexpensive skidsteer, Bobcat, or other type of all terrian lift. Or possibly an old Kelly style hive loader for the right price.
Thanks, Mike
Try Wooten's for corect spelling. Website : Wootensgoldenqueens.com. Very nice to work with.
As I understand it the Independence variety is self fertile. Meaning a grower does not have to plant mutiple varieties that have comatible pollen. A Nonpariel will not pollinate itself so you plant...
Do you like these M.L. double nucs? Whats the white stuff on the top bars? sugar? When will you have queens available and price?
Matt, Know you are in Central Valley. Where is your friends outfit located? Does this mean we are in for hive beetle infestation in CA or the C valley?
Look in livestock section. Runs right below the bee section in the actual paper ads. "BEEHIVES ALMOND POLLINATION, 3000 beehives for rent for almond pollination $75.00 per hive call with any...
Ad in Modesto Bee for 3000 hives at $75 per hive! Area code 701.
Big influence is what the weather does. Here in the Central Valley if we continue to have frosty mornings it's going to hold them back. If we get some warm rain and sun, they will pop sooner. As it...
What grade OSB? Would thickness matter for warping?
Just a bit of info. Ad in Modesto Bee classified section stating: "Good strong vigorous hives of bees for rent $100." Strong or weak not the...
