    Re: Vegans don't eat honey?

One of the late night guys did a segment awhile back where they went around and asked people if they were vegan, vegetarian, had a gluten allergy/ate gluten-free.

Obviously they edit so they get...

Re: Just bee heads outside the entrance?

I kind of assumed it was something eating the other parts of the bodies and the heads were just "left over". No tracks of any kind in the snow around the hives noted so birds makes good sense. I've...

Just bee heads outside the entrance?

I noticed this the other day, I'm not worried... bees seem fine for now. There were 10-15 bee heads outside of a couple of hive entrances. Strange. There were other bodies around but on the front...

Re: Entrance reducer laying on the ground

Mine moved some 3/4-1" rocks I was using to choke down their entrances. The next time I went to that yard the rockers were moved/pushed to the ground. No evidence of anything else doing it.

Re: when can I count my chickens?

$0.66/pound here or more right now was $0.44/pound this summer. Of course that isn't buying it like you are, Mark. ;) Maybe you should start repacking sugar?

Re: Would you treat with OAV now?

I bought a $5.15 copper 1/2" air chamber and a $0.30 90* elbow. Cut it in half and joined with elbow. Torch to heat it. Did a couple trial runs at home and they went well. Did my two Langs...

    Re: Sugar Water Ratios?

I had silly Italians building combs well into October feeding 2:1. In fact they keep building and never filled them. Maybe the broodnest was still big and they didn't have places to store it? ...

Re: My recipe/method for sugar blocks

Lauri, how much dry mix are your colonies going through in a given day? Roughly?
We have had a fairly warm winter (not nearly as warm as yours), but it's been highs in the upper-30s to low-40s for...

    Re: Sugar Water Ratios?

Haven't done 1:2, that's a whole lot of water though. In the spring it might not matter. If you had two hives you could feed 1:1 to one hive and 1:2 to a different hive and see how it goes? My...

Re: Spray Sugar Water instead of Smoke

I sprayed a swarm very lightly with sugar water because I read somewhere that it would "keep them from flying". False.

What it did do is make the box I had very very sticky... and the bees...

    Re: Swarm Flyer

    Your flyer is... too complicated.
    Example:
    "I want swarms.
This is what they look like:
    15648
    Call Jim Bob @ 555-222-5555"

No one is going to stop and read a solid sheet of text.
