Re: What Breed do you prefer for operation?

I have never really understood why people with a dozen hives or so feel the need to tell guys running thousands how it is. Maybe someone else can explain why that is so common.

    For what it's...

Re: moving bees into blueberries this week

Regarding moving in the rain, obviously sometimes it can't be avoided on long trips, and I do prefer it over high temps with netted bees. However, one time we drove through a tremendous downpour for...

    Re: Manitoba Bee Auction

Not that long ago in 2004 I bought loads of supers for $5 and sold my crop for .75/lbs. Big change eh?

Wondering if the high price of bees and honey will hold out.

Ian, I don't disagree that spraying a field crop with fungicide shows terrible damage on bees, but it is just not the same in an orchard. Firstly, the pressure coming out of a "turbo mist" sprayer...

    Re: Winter Feed Consumption

MT, I think you should use the abundance of empties kicking around the honey house, fill them with invert and use them like a rabbit feeder. Kill 2 birds with one stone. For what it's worth, a...

    Hummerbee Snowblower

Just wondering if anyone has one- I'm considering buying one. What are the cons?

Can it do the job? It the turbo heavy enough to get enough traction and push that thing around?

    Does the...

    Re: Formic Acid Flash Treatment

We put on a meat pad each time we are in the hives spring and fall. Sometimes we may get 10 on in a year. I have no idea if this is what Randy is referring to. I will email him.

    Re: Over wintering hives

Big time! Put a sticky board in and you'll see. Obviously for the proper treatment it is 4 days apart 6 times. But we use it as a knock down and then OA in the fall...this year we skipped the fall...
