Re: Lang Nuc to Warre Problem

What shape were the nucs in? All the comb drawn out?

June isn't often a great nectar flow, which is what they need typically to do much building.

I'd just give it more time unless others in...
  2. Re: Can someone explain to me how the bars in a Warre work?

There are a number of questions you have brought up.

    1. Top bars nailed into place = not movable = not legal.

I don't know which state you're in, or the specific regulations for your situation....

    Re: Warre wintering feeder questions

If you've seen them eating, then they've found the sugar and you're good.

I think the way you did it is much preferable to dumping sugar on top of the bars. It seems to me that dumping sugar on...
  4. Re: Price per wt honey, or per container costs, or UPsell?

Bad form to reply to my own thread, yes.

Do the customers seem to appreciate the simplicity and sort-of fairness of 1/2sized containers costing 1/2 as much? or do they prefer the feeling of...
  5. Price per wt honey, or per container costs, or UPsell?

That's a horridly unclear subject, but here's what I'm after: Pricing different sized containers. I'm not really talking about honey sticks vs barrels, but more the sizes that are generally similar...
  6. Using a boardman entrance feeder as a top feeder in a Warré

    Hello Fello Warréors,

I made an unwise box removal in early fall, and put it back on the hive after killing much brood by chilling. There was lots of nectar in it, and minimal honey.

    All that...

    Re: Started harvesting yesterday.

I spoke a bit too soon about my boxes.

Because I used the escape boards (with the boxes off the hive stack), I waited several days before peering underneath.

I should have done so sooner (like...

    Re: Started harvesting yesterday.

On one box, all the combs went catty corner, and not lined up with the top bars. There's pretty much zero work using the escape board. I'd rather do all of my comb cutting and pulling without bees...

    Started harvesting yesterday.

We only have 3 hives, all warrés.

Two have enough honey to allow us to rob the top box.

    We're using clearer type boards.

We removed the top box, placed it on the ground on a solid board....

Re: Crush and strain honey comb !

    That would be great, thanks.

Also, did your 3 gallons come from two warré boxes, then?

Re: Crush and strain honey comb !

Looks like a nice harvest. Can you comment on your clearing board, how well it worked, and maybe a picture or two of it?

Re: Clustering at hive entrance normal?

There can be a lot of reasons for a small cluster. Aside from that, many of us add another box to the bottom when the comb reaches halfway down.

Adding a box to the bottom is called nadiring.

    Re: Top Bar/Half Frame/Full Frame?

Just top bars, here, but I haven't harvested yet. All my harvesting done last year were lang boxes and frames that I let grow down into warrés.

    Re: When to harvest honey?

    I'm a bit confused.

I was under the impression that when we harvest a box from our Warré stack that it should be completely full of capped honey. If that's the case, then there won't be any...

Girls a flyin. Pollen a comin in.

    We're in Southern Missouri.

This colony of italians was adapted down to Warré boxes last year. They've got 3 or 4 more combs of honey left in their top box.
