    Re: amendment to farm bill

Farming is not farming anymore. It is an industry no different than paper, steel, wire or mining. Most of which is now produced off shore to avoid regulation and the abundant cheap labor. The only...

If you are in your hives on a regular basis the problem may be much less then someone that practices non-intervention.

    Re: inner cover ?

You message is clear but the boxes I got from Better bee have the top bar hanging down from the top edge of the box by at least 1/16 and up form the bottom by at least 1/4. I copied that design for...

    Re: Screened bottoms

An open bottom hive would not matter to the bees but the screen will keep small animals out like mice. The design concept is to let the mite fall through rather then set on a bottom board and hitch...

    Re: Screened bottoms

No, I am saying that a screen Bottom Board is made such that the bees can not get through the screen. Anything else is not a SBB.

    Re: inner cover ?

How can the bee space be correct if when you use an inner cover there is 1/4 added to the space and if you don't use an inner cover there is not?

The problem with northern regions is propolise...

I don't see how that is possible if the SBB is in good shape.

    Re: Future of Commercial Beekeeping

I hate Monsanto but I would rather discuss the future of beekeeping. Roland, I agree with you on the Commercial side. I don't agree with you on the hobby side. It is so much easier as a hobbyist...

    Re: Screened bottoms

I like the idea that there is not a ton of water setting on the bottom board.

    Re: Gloves Make The Difference!

If you find a way to control that I would like some pointers. The last time I swatted I was being chased by a bug near the hives and knocked my glasses off. It took me and my wife a half an hour to...

    Re: Future of Commercial Beekeeping

We only buy at Hannaford in our area. We see a lot of produce labeled "local" but not organic. The organic mix has decreased quite a bit recently and instead we see more products labeled local and...

    Re: inner cover ?

    Telescoping cover = inner cover.

I think the inner cover / telescoping cover is a good idea for a beginner. It gives you a chance to slowly pry off the inner cover should there be burr comb. If...

    Re: Gloves Make The Difference!

That doesn't mean they can't. The fact is they can sting through any bee suit but they are fixed on going for your face or some other tender area.

Re: Colony update here in Pa

Why do you assume stealing pollen from a hive and giving it to them when you feel it is right is a good idea? Do you think freezing it is better than sealing it in wax?

I think a plastic frame will distort if you cut out the comb or foundation part. You will have to try one.

    Re: Leaving Them Alone

Every attempt to solve a mess that man has created creates a bigger mess. Leave it alone and nature will solve the mess that man has created. It just takes time.
