Glad to hear I'm not the only one using honey for the horses! I've seen it...
Well, without boring you with details .... in a nutshell using the honey in variety of ways. Primarily as a pre-race supplement - quick energy/glycogen sparing, b- vitamins etc. Also use it for...
I'm hoping to find someone who is selling raw honey near the Grantville, PA area. 5 gallon bucket preferred - gallon jugs would do. Need decent quantity as I'm feeding it to 2 racehorses.
I pledge to be a BSA Beekeeping Mentor if they reinstate the merit badge.
Just thought I'd write to give 'kudos' to the service from Glory Bee Foods. I had ordered their powdered sugar bellows duster and was completely and totally unhappy with it. I e-mailed them to let...
Bought one last fall and it works good if you have only a few hives ..... but admittedly I don't have anything to compare it too since that was the first time extracting! I'm guessing we'll wear it...
The 'screen box' is a great idea ..... now why didn't I think of that?? Much easier than the flour sifter - which is what I'd been using before trying the bellows duster. After about 8 hives with...
Sure wish your post would've been a week earlier!! Just got the "duster" in and just came in from giving it the first try ..... and am still cussing at the darn thing. Had the same problems you did...
There wasn't brood in all 5 supers - just in the first two. The third didn't have any brood in the center of the frames at all .... just the one frame with the row of queen cells on the bottom edge....
Thanks for your input!! We'll just wait and see what they decide to do and hope for the best! Good news is there's a lot worse problems to have I guess!!
Doing hive inspections this evening we have one hive that appears to be on the verge of swarming. I would almost guess it had already swarmed but the bee population still seems too strong for that. ...
Well, we just got done extracting our first supers of spring honey and had to share it with someone who would understand the excitement! Our "normal" non- beekeeping friends just don't seem to share...
8 hives and 1 nuc going in .... no losses over the winter..... 34482
Nicole - sounds like you might have it worked out with Mark Moody. Just in case though - Jerry's Beehives - Jerry Latner at Dadant's right in Gainesville sells hives in the spring but you would...
While working the hives Saturday we were quite surprised to find two queens in one of them. History on this hive is that it had been a laying worker hive that we'd fussed around with for far too...
Looks like rapeseed - relative of mustard and broccoli.
Has anybody had honey produced from bottlebrush flowers? We have a lot of the trees here and actually planted a hedge of 17 more since the bees love them so much. They bloomed heavily in the spring...
I noticed the same thing last year when we let a couple of broccoli plants flower. The bees loved it so much that I've got loads of extra seeds started for our winter garden so I can leave at least...
Just a newbee myself so I might be way wrong here but my thought would be to just set the frames out for some open feeding. Seems to me that extracting it would be an extra hassle if the bees will...
Large swarm on 8-19-08.
We raise horses for a living and YES, you will have to fence the bees off. What man can build, equus can destroy .... the fence will be a necessity to protect them from the horses. I would also...
Thanks for the welcome and the input!
I was assuming that we'd be in a dearth around here right now too but the bees are telling me different. We have a considerable amount of ligustrum and...
Hi all! Another new bee addict here. Have been lurking in the background and soaking up all the great information since starting with the bees this spring. Finally decided I just had to say Hi and...
