Re: Anybody sell pre-candied queen cages?

If you buy the 3-hole Benton cages, you can use marshmallows. Put a 1/4 marshmallow in the top hole BEFORE you staple the screen on. Then put the queen in the bottom hole & put on the cork. You can...

    Re: virgin queen

Why do you think she only had 6 days to mate? It often takes many more days than that. I feel you will see eggs soon, but I'd give it another week before I did anything. Good luck!

How the large queen producers do it...

Try shaving down the sides of the cells you are grafting from. Makes it a lot easier to get the grafting tip under them without flipping them. Hope that helps you!

Re: Burr Comb on Queen cups

Are there actually live queen cells under there? If not, then they are doing what bees do--building comb in empty spaces. Like another commentor, I usually place a frame of foundation in my cell...

    Re: Queen bee "narcolepsy"?

I've had this happen several times. She has always recovered.
  8. Re: Help me with my first attempt with the Nicot System

It won't matter a bit that the Nicot frame is on foundation rather than drawn comb. They will draw out the foundation soon enough.
The only problem I've had is workers putting honey in the plastic...

be sure to confine them where it's cool & dark

for at least 24 hours -- this should settle them down. After you get these mini-nucs drawn out, it becomes a LOT easier. I hold bees in them while I feed them to get them to draw out the comb. I put...
  12. Live & Let Die beeyard

I bought 2 queens from all the breeders I could find who claimed that they did not treat or had hygienic bees. I will not treat that yard & see how they do. I plan to use that beeyard as a drone...

    Re: Funny Looking Queen Cells

If you have good queen cells, you will notioce that the bees never cover the ends of the queen cells with webbing. The queens will emerge just fine. Or you can cut the cells out fromn the webbing...
