    Re: Minor feedback requested

First year beek here, my main focus was to just allow my hives to expand as needed while not stressing too much over my plans and Mother Nature. Having as many frames drawn as possible I felt would...
  2. Re: super slow motion educational bee film 2 mins long please watch

This would be awesome along with waxing and propolis!
  3. Re: super slow motion educational bee film 2 mins long please watch

Nice, caught the attention of my husband and son plus the music/film chimes in pretty well depicting how tough and fragile these creatures really are.

    Re: First Sting Yesterday

haha well I was intelligent enough to wear the veil while pulling the hive apart otherwise. It's not cumbersome at all and pretty secure. Has me thinking I may not go gloveless.

    Re: First Sting Yesterday

Thought I would add as all was well up to 3 weeks ago while checking newly added frames and syrup levels I was stung right on the outside corner of the eye socket, luckily I had benadryl on hand and...

So far I have been happy. This past order for med frames which I placed June 28, confirmed, then when I had not received it by July 5 I phoned them as I paid for 2 day shipping. They stated having...

Further inspection of the ground under my tall hive, a varmint has tunneled underneath! Hopefully we can solve that tomorrow when husband gets home? My 21 year old son says " No way, only with a...

Re: Couple of weird things today......

For a while I noticed red propolis too, now it's mostly orange to burnt yellow. That crackling noise? I wondered if it were the "sanitary workers" cleaning (chewing) out the comb from births....but...
  11. Re: I definitely understand now why the hive stands work side to side, not front to b

Well I could but this is not completely solid underneath. There is a rail that runs front to back on each side and another rail that runs side to side at the rear. A screened bottom board with...
  12. I definitely understand now why the hive stands work side to side, not front to back

Dang ----- Husband noticed while mowing that my largest hive has really shifted. I asked him to set a base for me with concrete blocks, and I see that I have enabled this scenario. Now I have a...

    Re: Checking hives without gloves?

Without gloves, I found them too bulky. Hands must smell of smoke, they crawl on once in a while, feels pretty cool to feel wings flutter too. I believe I'm better at handling the frames and the bees...

  19. Re: Farmer provided list of chemicals for corn crop and it still hurts.

[QUOTE=jim lyon;1120032]Unless there were some issues with planter dust when the corn was planted I wouldnt be too concerned that the corn will harm your bees as the summer progresses. Given that...

  22. Farmer provided list of chemicals for corn crop and it still hurts.

I feel let down once our local farmer proceeds to enter the acreage we have leased and lucky for me its only 6 acres. This year, corn and yes it was planted with no till/drill process. My questioning...

    Re: Should I? Would you?

Update to should I, would you?

Checked both hives this afternoon. The northern hive did well, drew out most all the comb to 70-80% in both mediums I added, I failed to mention I had placed two...
