Re: Opening hive, check, more advice?

I wasn't trying to imply that you didn't have a plan, I just didn't see one laid out. My plans often change depending on what I see, or it's something for next time. I tend to spend less time in...

Re: Opening hive, check, more advice?

To me personally, I always go in with a game plan. I don't just open the hive up for no reason. Even if it is to learn, have some objectives in place. Sometimes I just pop the top and don't pull a...

    Re: Varroa test. {pics}

Glock, I was in the same boat as you. Last year I had a large mite count after trying fogging. Moved to OVA and worked great. This year I moved them over to 4.9 and I haven't seen mites since. It...

    Re: Oxalic Sublimation Temp?

I just looked at some that are offered out there and made my own. I used a block on aluminium from ebay and cut it to about a 4x4 block. I drilled a hole for the glow plug, a hole for a set screw...

    Re: Oxalic Sublimation Temp?

At 315F OA starts to sublime and will until it reaches 370F at which point it will decompose to Formic Acid and Carbon Monoxide I believe. So, anywhere in between 315F and 370F, but when i made...
  6. Re: Inspections without all the squished Bees

I usually set my box down like a book. The front side first and then slowly lower the back side. They move out of the way as it goes down. I sometimes squish a couple but usually rare.

Re: Top entrance Should I have One

I guess it's possible. I had a spacer like yours last year and never had a mold issue. Maybe the conditions are just right?

Re: the love of the new queen

I completely agree. It is really fun to see them cover the cage and fan away.

Re: Top entrance Should I have One

I too made some that are kind of like MB tops. I'll add some pictures. The first two are from a new package, I don't feed usually. I keep my old SSB and just block that entrance completely. I...

  14. Re: 10 days of Honey Super - No activity, Take it off?

I had this happen last year. They will build comb when they need it. My third box (all mediums) is mostly honey. My guess is that they will back fill when the brood emerges. Ate you feeding?

    Re: Broken Comb

It's honey comb in one of the supers. I rubber banded it. So, you don't think it will work? Should I just take it out of the hive and let them rob it out? Thanks for the reply's.

    Broken Comb

So I just wanted to get some input on what people do when they have some honey comb break. How do you the bees off the comb to fix it? I just used smoke, smoke and more smoke. Didn't know if...
  19. Re: Is a cluster on a queen cage a good sign or a bad sign?

If you can brush them away then I would think your fine. They will keep coming back to where she is, that's normal. Also, you said they don't have much of the plug gone, so there is plenty of time...
