    Re: Box joint machine??

Check out a lock miter joint.
No exposed end grain, cheap and easy to do, holds the 90 degree corners naturally,
cost under $100, and WORKS WELL!

If I was a commercial guy making my own woodwork...

Re: Do I Have Afrcanized Honey Bees?

What sort of music do they play?
Do their pants hang so low you see their buttcracks?

  4. Re: "17 billion honey bees injured, killed...", Article featuring Kim Flottum.

Do the pollination contract have any penalties for the almond growers destroying hives?

I am not surprised at the lack of news reports about this because it involves the government

Re: Too many hives at 1 place?

    This.
I recommend asking around to get the phone number of the guy with the hives and set up a meet.
Most of the time a face to face talk with someone is the most effective way of resolving issues...

Are you talking about their 8 frame boxes?
They are 14" wide and therefore have the exact issues you mention but some people use it to their benefit
by slightly shaving frames to get 9 for brood...
  9. Re: Facing existing hives in different directions

So it stops bees from drifing?
    Ok, that makes some sense.
Is it worthwhile to do to a small set of hives set a few feet apart?

    Re: How HIGH?!

JP, would it be possible for you to posts pics of your SBBs so I can steal your ideas?
They sounds pretty neat and I am sure others wouldn't mind some pics too.

    Re: 'Open Source' Beehive.

Don't get me wrong, I too -NEED- a CNC router but I doubt many beeks have one.
    Wish they did.
Better, that -I- had one, and a big one at that.
I would expect a CNC'd plywood hive to have a short...
  12. Re: Facing existing hives in different directions

I fail to see how changing the hive's entrance direction will affect the infestation rates.
Feral hives a 1/2 mile apart is far from the same thing as hives facing different directions in an apiary....

  14. Re: Is the division 'Treatment Free' adequate to the task?

Is this secret not doing anything at all to your bees?
I am sure many people have tried that and eventually lost all their bees.....

I have to say that my thoughts on this are the same as you.
Their "open source" design is also designed for a CNC router which I am sure all
hip beeks have one in their workshop!

Sure that Big Brother doesn't stop at the border.
I would insist that honey from China be inspected as closely as domestic honey otherwise it is
giving a foreign country a better deal than you own...
  17. Re: Canada wants tracking of individual hives? Just how would that work? Is U.S. ne

    Are you sure?
I am pretty certain that the stuff coming in from China is NOT inspected even slightly.
They also have very little pesky environmental laws
    to cost manufacturers money.
    China has...

I fear that enough of it will give you a serious mite infestation that will have you scratching yourself to death.

    Re: Alt. equipment idea?

Cleats seem to me to be easier to use with many of the box lifter plans
