    Re: Foundationless Brood Frames.........

I have good success with FL frames as well. Every spring when I make my splits I feed lots of new FL frames into the NUCs made from splits. They draw out worker cell almost exclusively. Feeding...

  9. Re: Where do you get your 1.25" frame nails?

I agree HF air tools are not high quality construction grade equipment, but I don't expect that for less than 15 bucks either. They are disposable for me. The newer models seem to jam far less than...
  10. Re: Where do you get your 1.25" frame nails?

Build a jig. The time saved with the jig/stapler combo is way more than going from nails to the staple gun. 10 frames per 7 mins or so ...
  11. Re: Where do you get your 1.25" frame nails?

I would go to a harbor freight if you have one, buy a Nailer/stapler (or two):

  16. Re: Set me straight - is pulling queen good idea to stimulate workers to make honey

I did cut down splits right before the flow got going. Two of my stronger hives are going to store 100+ pounds of honey for sure.

I've heard of a few on the SE side of the state. If I would not have done splits on my production hives, I think all nine would have swarmed this past week. I have about a dozen traps up in Western...

Re: What's your ideal hive configuration?

I run all 8 frame mediums. It does mean more equipment and expense, but the lighter boxes and the ability to move frames around to where ever is a big plus.
