Re: Tupelo Trees and Tupelo Honey

I would not call it Tupelo honey but, you will normally get a very good high quality honey from the Black Gum. They will be blooming in just a couple weeks. Normally just a head of the Gallberry.

    Re: Mobile cell incubator kit?

Most of the incubators are low wattage you can easily run them with the plug in inverter. Something like this. http://www.batteryjunction.com/wa75wasmin21.html?gclid=COy4ofzDycQCFUpp7AodrXIAZA

Re: Think I Quit Feeding Too Soon

March can often be a tough time of year for us too. They build up good on the Maple in Jan-Feb. and then the flow tapers off some in March. By then the bees are building up like crazy. So between the...
  5. Re: How do you do this - what's the trick to tipping up boxes to look under them?

If you go ahead and pick up the box and pull it forward just a little before you tilt it up it shouldn't slide off the back. If you just tilt it up from the front it could very well slide off the...

    Re: Clipping Wings

UF recommends clipping queens and they clip all of their queens. It will not keep the hive from swarming, but it will make the swarms easier to catch they will often times be hanging off the bottom...
  7. Re: Getting bees NEXT spring - how to become sustainable?

You can defiantly go without treating with antibiotics.

I would try to go ahead and start with three hives if you are thinking about 10 down the road. The difference between 2 and 3 is miniscule....
  8. Re: NUC Day 7 am I ready to add another brooding chamber?

It's not quite ready for another box just yet. It looks like both outside frames aren't drawn out yet. Those are the hardest frames to get them to draw out. I like to make them at least start on...
  9. Re: How long before inserting your queen cell do you make up your mating nuc?

I always do it like Honey4all. I put them in right away it takes too much time to come back and do it the next day. If I will be moving the nucs to another yard I will wait until I get the nucs to...
  10. Re: I have questions about transporting queen cells.

I use one of these incubators the heating element is only 24watts so you can easily run it with a small plug in inverter. I've been down to pickup cells from Miksa several times. It's about a 3hr...
  11. Re: New UPS rules for shipping bees? Anyone know more about this?

I wonder if UPS has stock in that new company that's making the all plastic package cages?

I saw some of the new package cages at my supplier when I picked up my packages and he wasn't too sure...

I ordered a net from these guys. I was very happy with the net and the customer service. They mailed my net before I had even sent in my payment. http://www.meyerhoneyfarms.com/nets.html

Re: Easiest type of cell builder for a beginner

The easiest way is to just use a 5 frame nuc box, 1frame honey 1frame pollen, cell bar and two empty frames, put as many bess as you can fit into the nuc box. Keep the bees closed up in a cool place...

    Re: Help!- Bee Mystery

Yep sounds like classic robbing some bees end up dieing from the fighting. It should subside pretty soon it doesn't take them long to clean them up.
  15. Re: Pay your state bee fees! I was a fugitive from justice

It cost me $40 to have the bees inspected and $25 to get my queen certificate which allows me to be able to sell queens. But, if I have any question I can pickup the phone and call our inspector and...

    Re: what is going on?

It's really hard to say from just a still picture. But, the first thing that popped into my mind was robbing. It looks like the bees are probing any crack for a way into the hive.

    Re: Timing the split

No, it won't slow them down very much. If you take the queen and a couple frames of bees to make up a nuc it won't slow down the original hive very much at all. This works pretty good if done right...

    Re: Wiring Super Duragilt Frames

I thought one of the selling points of Duraguilt was that it used real wax with a plastic backing so it did not have to be wired?

Re: Is 55 a Safe Temperature to make Nucs?

Yes, I think you should be ok if you have everything set up and you work fast. But, with that said. We were about a month ahead of schedule here so I grafted a couple weeks early and then reality set...

    Re: 2015 orange bloom Florida.

I don't want to speak too soon but, so far it looks like it's gonna be my best year yet in the groves. I put the rest of my drawn comb on the hives today. I've never had it all on before for Orange...
