Well here's hoping they get stuck in the mud next time they try it, and are still there when the owner shows up.

After my last trash pumps crank went out before it had even pumped a tanker load, I rigged up an electric motor to a bronze gear honey pump and couldn't be happier. Most of our pumping is done...

What funwithbees said. For details of the pump up sprayer use , check out Randy Olivers website. Its not an exact science, but there seems to be some leeway in dosing. Just try to get it as close as...

Re: getting towns to ban polinators

2 frames of bees is going to have a hard time with any amount of strong hives around in a dearth. We just came through the' Summer from Hell' here in N CA. No rain or nectar for months. My last...
  11. Re: making nuc with shaken bees from several hives and a queen ?

    > What are the issues in doing this?<
Its a good plan. I shake bees from a yard and stock the hives( deadouts or 5 frame nucs) that same day at sundown. Queen acceptance is close to 100%, year after...
  12. Re: Bees and Skunks: what is fact and what is folklore?

Lots of coyotes here Harry. I see them often, and they do travel through the beeyards. I shot and trapped many when i was younger and the pelts were $50.00 That was real money back in the 70s...
  13. Poll: Re: Treat for Varroa mites or let them suffer & die..........

Another amen to that. All the basics of management are important , but varroa has to be the number 1 issue with keeping hives alive and healthy.
  14. Re: Bees and Skunks: what is fact and what is folklore?

They do the worst damage on the cold nights in Fall . There aren't many bees being raised then and the skunk digging and scratching causes the bees to pour out and become chilled .Hundred of dead...

  16. Re: Move hives: What's the lowest safe temp?

Not the best conditions, but I have moved them where it was -15 at the start of the trip. The wind chill was concerning, and looking back I think a tarp might have been helpful. It was warmer at the...
  17. Re: Bees and Skunks: what is fact and what is folklore?

The good thing about the pipe traps is you can just walk up and pick them up without covering them. But thats the right way to do a regular cage trap for sure.
  18. Re: Bees and Skunks: what is fact and what is folklore?

Our hives are mostly on pallets, and we have all the above mentioned predators. We also have an overpopulation of skunks here.Worst I have ever seen. No yard escaped damage this year.Hives dug out,...
