I think Maxant has an uncapper that sits on top of their cappings spinner, check their webpage for the price. I don't own any of their equiment yet but they seem to get good reviews.
Oh those are definately much nicer looking then the ones I picked up! The ones I bought have knot holes etc, not sanded.
This is a constant statement in agriculture. Who decided we have to feed the world? I'm sure if the average farmer could earn the same amount of money without GM/spraying/fertilizer...
I'm willing to bet it's the amount of beekeepers that's declining not hive numbers. Agriculture is/has turned into big business. Small guys really aren't encouraged to grow, as new laws and...
I think that's a bit expensive for a sheet of 1/2" plywood. I bought a couple last year and they were under $20/cdn. Are you buying a better grade plywood for making nucs?
Unfortunately bees are attracted to rapeseed/canola or is this a different plant.
Maybe they leave the dead bees there when it's cold as weatherstripping.
If you have some drawn comb you can actually split a package into 2 colonies right off with an extra queen. It seems a waste of resources to put a nuc and a package into 2 8 frame bodies. Part of...
I read something about hanging a beaver carcass over the chicken run. It might be for those flies. Aparently the maggots will fall off the carcass and the chickens will eat them off the ground.
Jim, my bees tend to target my white pick up regardless of where I park!
I think there are pics of hives that have a lot of fecal matter on them, look at the pics before thinking you have lots.
I provide both top and bottom entrances to my hives, some have Q excluders some don't. Some hives make lots of use of the top entrance, some mainly use the bottom entrance. Can't figure out why.
I've heard if you wet wood (dampen it not soak) before you glue the glue will not go in too deep and will make a better joint. I believe this came from Norm Abram (This Old House fame).
Lauri, do you think there would be any benefit in replacing the divider board with a queen excluder. If one of the queens dies they would be able to cross horizontally, not sure if they would be...
Ian, I believe you're a member of the COOP. If so is it the COOP that requires you to have a CFIA honey house?
Not sure if it's intended for me but, I don't feed them organic, they get layer ration though (about $15/bag) and I usually have oyster shells for them.
If we could just get that percentage up, maybe someone invent a hive tool that would sprout and grow, there would be lots of hive tools.
Think of the pollination contracts!
Just advertise them as treatment free. When the customer comes to pick them up let them know there is a mite count and if they want them treated charge them extra for it.
Keep selling nucs to the...
Sorry I use a "migratory type cover" which is one piece of plywood on top of the hive and I have a notch cut in the front. For the telescoping cover you should have a flat side and the other side has...
Acebird, I think they need at least 12 hrs of light for full on egg production. I also think if you run them all year they burn out faster (my chickens tend not to live much past 3 yrs). So giving...
Do not undercharge, that is a problem for all other people selling nucs. As stated above sell only a quality product and charge the going rate.
I have picked up nucs at someones overwintering...
Riskybizz, no I don't have much exp and never said I had. But ... it seems to work really well maybe it just fits well with me. Had no one to show me how to do it and did a lot of damage especially...
You had better check the regulations concerning importing bees there. You may not be allowed or they might only allow imports from certain countries. You might be able to get them shipped by air...
Will this device be able to filter out the wifes voice?
I have a light and heat in the shed. Light on a timer. I think if they aren't warm enough survival instinct kicks in and they use the energy for heat instead of laying. Still getting lots of eggs.
