Re: Why North and South Dakota?

My bees forage on clover and alfalfa. If you get away from the endless corn fields, there is a lot of alfalfa fields, and hay fields full of clover.

My understanding, (not a botanist) is that the...

    Re: New England vacation

So now we have all the mailers from the tourism departments, but can you folks recommend some "must sees" in MA, ME, NH and VT?

The only things on the list so far are, Cheers, Lighthouse tour,...
  5. Re: I need tips for selling honey at farmers market

It might not apply to all markets... But move your vehicle somewhere else.

The booth next to us doesn't move theirs, and I wonder how many give up due to parking.

    Re: winter bee storage

You can find free trailer houses on craigslist. Mounting a motorized damper in one of the windows would help to control the temps inside. The damper motor is very low draw, so a solar panel would...
  7. Re: what to use for something to spread CREAMED HONEY on as a sample

I would try popsicle sticks. I think they should be easy to find at the grocery store.

    Clover all over

I travel a lot for work, and having spent a good deal of time on the highways in SD, IA, MN & NE I can say I have never seen so much clover in the ditches. Miles & miles of yellow, white & red.

Re: My Bees died over the winter :(

We were below zero for too long. The bees were all head first in the cells, 2 inches from a new patch of honey.

On the bright side, I have honey to extract when it warms a bit.

    New England vacation

My wife and I are planning a trip to New England this fall. We would like to time it so we can be there to see the fall colors.

Can anybody recommend what dates would be good for this?

    Thanks....

    Re: Hutterite beekeepers and treatment?

What was the name of the documentary? I have a few Hutterite friends, but they don't keep bees. Other colonies in the area do, so I'll try and find out.

    Re: Using a Heat Gun for Uncapping;

I tried a heat gun last year. It works for the most part. Maybe with more wattage it would be faster, but it's what I had.
