  1. Re: A laying worker confirms missing queen, or maybe not?

I have see queens lay multiple eggs in cells, when she is starting to lay in the early spring. When the cluster is large enough to cover more of an area and a little time goes on, it should begin to...

Re: Establishing Nucs in the Same Yard

Choose brood frames with capped brood. The newly emerging workers should add quickly to your population and will not be included to return to the old hive.

    Re: I'm Officially a Beekeeper!

With established hives containing the amount of honey that you described, I would not feed. I agree with Jbraun, you can always take one of the full supers to split between the two hives.

    I do not...

Re: how much is enough ?????

I think that your question may not have an exact answer. Over-wintering bees depends a lot on location and the winter that they go through. I will list a few of the variables that I am aware of.

Re: What else do I need for my first year?

A chair to sit near your hives. Some of my most enjoyable times with the bees are spent watching the girls fly in and out bringing back different types of pollen, etc.

    Identify this plant.

My bees have been working this pretty hard. It grows wild in the right-of-way. Some grow up to 4 or 5 feet tall.

Does anyone have an idea what it is?

    Re: Orientation Flight???

The entrance being covered and going upwards sounds like washboarding. Were they barely moving back and forth? The small circular flights and then returning sounds like orientation flights. Check...

    Re: Shafted on Shipping

Is it that you were shafted by the bee supply store or was everyone shafted by the shipping company?

I would think that the cost for the shipping that you pay is the price that the shipping...

Re: is it a swarm cell?

It does look like a queen cell, to me. If you only see one an couldn't find the queen it may be that they have already swarmed with the queen or the bees may just want another queen, to supersede. If...

From what I understand it can take up to three weeks for the queen to start laying.

Re: ideas as to what's going on here?

Looks normal to me. My hives do that from time to time... maybe they are just hanging around waiting on nectar or pollen.
