Thanks for all the advice.
I've never had this few bees in a hive before. I would say less than ~1000 to 2000. That is the only reason I am worried.
I am going to pick up 3 new hives on March 17th. Should I just get a new queen if I don't see any brood by then?
I opened my hive the other day and noticed a lot less bees in one hive than the other one. I was just getting off of nights and didn't have the patience to search for a queen in a hive of big bees....
Sorry, I forgot to say cold for north carolina. I will keep an eye on them and see if it increases. the small hive had 4 full medium boxes on it and 2 of them are still full. The other is 3 medium...
We've had a really cold winter this winter and today was the first day that I checked on my 2 hives. The first hive had plenty of honey in it and plenty of bees (almost like it was summer time). The...
What does everyone put there beehives on? I usually just use cinder blocks but wanted to take a poll to see if there was something more interesting out there. Look forward to the answers. Thanks.
10 frame langstroth hives.
I am wanting to turn my hives 90 degrees to the right. What all precautions do I need to take for that?
What all do I need to do to the hive after it is moved?
I tapped on the side of the hive the other day and didn't hear any buzzing. I started to think all my bees were dead. I opened the top and they piled out at me and my dog. We both took off running.
Is now a good time to move a hive since they spend most of there time in the hive and not flying around? Can I break the 3ft rule now as long as I put some brush in front of the entrance?
I saw some bees flying in the hive yesterday with what looked like brown or gray pollen. It has been cold in the North Carolina area. Any idea what pollen that could be?
I use medium supers. I would say the lightest box is about 20 pounds. Most are completly full. I might take the boxes off to leave three full boxes on each one. Also, throw some patties in there that...
I live in Charlotte, NC. I currently have two hives. One hive is 5 boxes high and almost all of it is full. The other hive is 4 boxes high and is about 75% full. What do you recommend? I also have...
When will the goldenrod come in and do they usually get a lot from it?
Charlotte should be renamed the Seattle of the East.
Mid April I got 3 gallons off my hive that had been produced in a little over a month and still left plenty in the hive for a just in case scenario. I thought for sure I would be pulling another 2 or...
Thanks for the great advice.
Didn't use smoke because I suck at keeping my smoker lit. How do you get the cotton lit and put it in the smoker?
Nothing for them to gather would make sense because my other hive was doing the same thing when I went in to them. How long should I wait to try again?
They need to get out there and look harder instead of stinging me. Is it better to check them early, late, midday, or does it not matter?
What do you mean by dearth? I did not smoke today. No signs of outside invaders. Each hive is about 5 boxes high and well established.
So, I went to check my bees about 11 this morning and they were angry. Very angry.... Mass exodus of the hive and onto my suit. Even had a lucky girl crawl up my leg and sting just short of my...
