    Re: help identifying insect please

Yeah, aphid, nothing to worry about, someone probably cut some field, they had to run for it.

    Re: Ball of Bees

When they refer to drippy bees, that's what it refers to as well.

Re: Queen source on Oregon coast?

I got my 7 queens last week from there.... 6 introduced successfully, well 5, check the last one tomorrow. #7 got balled, had a queen in the nuc already, I should've known the way the parent hive...

Re: Attacked For No Apparent Reason

Bees don't like getting tangled in hair, it's probably a response to thinking they're in a spider web.

Re: I'm such an IDIOT at times

You forgot the golden rule Ray, "patience". I made the $25 mistake last year, never again.
  8. Re: I have a swarm cell with larvae and royal jelly. BUT....

A new queen might have emerged and they cleared out the cells that didn't hatch as the virgin may have stung them and killed them. 10 cells, that's swarm prep, get the queen out of there and make...

So you're saying those 3 cells in the previous pics are destroyed now?

  11. Re: I have a swarm cell with larvae and royal jelly. BUT....

Some new queens don't last a week after starting to lay, it happens, only the bees know why. It'll be something you learn though, but it is hard to accept, I had the same problem, but they don't...
  12. Re: I have a swarm cell with larvae and royal jelly. BUT....

Bees don't swarm with one cell. If they've been making a queencell here and there, they're trying to supercede the queen, you need to let it happen or she will disappear during winter and your bees...

Re: In a bit of quandary as to what to do

I doubt it, like I said earlier, once they want to supercede, it happens. You've stretched it out, but the bees always win in the end by making that queen disappear. If you had inadvertently...

Re: In a bit of quandary as to what to do

Is this the same hive you removed cells from earlier?
  15. Re: Giving up on my hives. What do I need to do for next season?

You can just let them die out, but they'll make a mess of the comb raising all drones

Re: Failed nuc split and graft - why?

when was this? 4 days, if you had eggs, they will make queencells from the larva that hatched a day earlier, give it another 3 days and check if the 4 days wasn't too long ago. If you're saying...

    Re: Smoker

I don't use much, more to move them out of the way than anything. Just a few light puffs and go, maybe some at the end to clear the top bars if I'm putting boxes back on.

  23. Re: I have a Plan. It may not be THE plan but it is a plan.

Hives don't swarm with supercedure, just that the queen gets replaced.
  24. Re: I have a Plan. It may not be THE plan but it is a plan.

Why did she stop laying? Are you sure you don't have a new queen in there now because the old one got superceded? I haven't had a hive stop superceding a queen no matter what I do....

Re: super full of honey where brood was

Normal late season behavior, they got their honey in the box, time to defend it now. The queens are getting pushed down now.
