Re: Will GMO crops affect bees

This is more a philosophical issue than a scientific one, because the guys who are out there will tell you that GMO does not affect their bees. If anyone knows..... they ought to.

Re: Will GMO crops affect bees

You are probably correct on this point, the problem is feeding 7 billion people. An organic garden will not do that.

Re: Will GMO crops affect bees

Jim has several thousand white boxes spread from Texas, to CA, to the Dakotas to back up his position. He has a major interest in things that bother his bees.

Re: Will GMO crops affect bees

I suppose if one can have a 100 percent agricultural area then I must live in one. You can stand on my front porch and not be able to see the end of a corn and soybean field.

    So if they spray as...

Re: Will GMO crops affect bees

Fungicides and nitrates get applied around here, but seldom insecticides. Perhaps they don't plant GMO around there..... but I doubt it. WE also don't get those multiple cultivations either. So I...

Re: Will GMO crops affect bees

Probably not, but spraying is greatly reduced and only when the situation is dire. Crop dusting seems to be a thing of the past, except for blue berries.

Discover of Apis neartica - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michael_S._Engel
He got to name the species..... neartica, but had to stick with the genus - Apis.

I misspelled it.... Apis nearctica - google it and select images. Pic doesn't want to upload for me. It's an ugly bugger... doesn't look much like mellifera.

Re: Original Honeybees in North America

I wonder how the bees were shipped. I seem to remember reading about their being placed in porous bags (like old feed sack material) - place in the bottom of the boat and periodically soaked with...

What does the fossil record show? Maybe there evidence that honey bees existed then. I believe the last glaciation only went about as far south as PA, so the south could have possibly been able to...

They will not have issues. Ours are 4 to a pallet.... no problem.
  20. Re: How many colonies can I put in a small space?

Sure.... should not be a problem. Assuming you have room to get in there and work them.

You need to look at your local ordinances. I know of no State regulations about this. Don't know if I would ask too many questions though, sometimes it is easier to beg forgiveness than to seek...

Re: Pollination Off a 16' trailer

No that is not quite what I said. With an average honey yield of 40 lbs per hive it is difficult to make a profit. One can make some honey, but keep track of your costs and labor and see what your...
