BeeAware... How do you plant yours? Last year I planted using a broadcast spreader..... worked okay, but not great. I picked up a grain drill this spring, but it doesn't say what settings to use...
Thanks
Thats what I will do if I have to... but these are survivor genetics, so if I can mellow them out, and keep some of the survivor genes, that would be better.
Well, I split them today. Man was that a fight. I was getting so ticked, I almost went and got the gasoline and a match. After some work, I did get them split, however.... I was not able to find...
I guess I will give it a try. And yes, the bees do run all over the place. Maybe I will split it again, that way at least one of the hives will be making a new queen, and it should make it easier...
I had a bad winter and lost all but one hive. The hive that survived, was a swarm that I caught the year before. They were darker than my other bees, and a bit more aggressive, but not too bad. ...
I'd like to know more about this too. Last night I was cleaning up a dead out that I believed died from nosema. I scrapped all the wax off the frames (plastic frames) then sprayed them with the...
Got my first swarm call of the season yesterday 5/18/10. Larsen WI 54947. I need to start bringing my camera. It was by far the largest swarm I have ever seen in person. They were very gentile, I...
Do any of you use a cordless, rechargeable vac to run you bee vac? Or do you all you old shop vacs that plug in?
Just to clarify a couple of things. The bees haven't been there long. A few weeks maybe. So the wall probably isn't filled with bee stuff.
The home owners have said they do not want to open...
I would have no worries about moving it.
I would just put a frame of open brood and some eggs in the hive next to the tree. Then the bees from the tree will come in and take care of the brood. The queen is not needed. They will make...
Roland:
How do you use bees wax to affix the screen? Do you melt it at the location of the trapout? Also, doesn't it stain the bricks? Thats one of the problems. I can't do anything that will...
Below is a picture of a trap out someone would like me to do. The arrow leads to the entrance that the bees are using. As you can see this is going to be pretty difficult to get a screen cone on. ...
Has it been really humid, and now has the humidity gone down? I've noticed that they seem to beard more when the humidity is high. I was having the same thing, but a front came through and dried...
Sounds like you may have lost the queen on the weak hive. They bees were replacing her with those queen cells. They need young eggs or day old larva to make a new queen. I recommend taking a frame...
Karl... being that I am in Wisconsin too... I have noticed the same thing. But many of the calls I am getting are from one exterminator giving my number out to people who have swarms in their...
link doesn't work for me either...
I will take this chance to clear up some confusion. The branch is 4" in diameter, and must be at least 15 feet long. And to tell you the truth, I really don't want to take that big of a branch out...
Thats true you can't get all of the swarms, and there needs to be some wild ones left for the future. Just think of all those cut outs and bee trees that we would not get to do.
It is natures way...
The funny thing is that is just about what it would take to get to these bees. I guess I will just sit back and hope that they are in one of my traps tonight when I get home from work.
...
I am rural enough to shoot the gun.... but that hickory tree branch is about 4" thick. Gonna take a bunch of rounds. They have only been there a day so far, so as of right now, they should be...
I really like the truck with a boom idea. But I think its a bit out of the price range. :lpf: I do have traps set out already, I just don't have a strong feeling they are going to take up...
Okay.... the swarm season has hit Northeast Wisconsin. I have had swarms before and had no problem getting them. This time, they chose the very top of a tall hickory tree. I tried taping a 5...
Got home from work today and had a large swarm in my pear tree. Boxed it up and set it with the others. Larsen WI 54947
