That's only helpful queen breeder and want some pure VSH stock at a reasonable price (for inseminated queens anyways). But $250 can be a bit steep for most that are just looking for open mated...

I haven't used it. But what I've been told is it's an improved formulation that is more effective then the old hop guard.

    Re: Best grafting tool?

1/2 the width. It appeared that the wider tip of the tool simply rode too high in the cell. Even though it is rounded, when you bend the tip it forms a strait line. Place it in a cell with a...

    Re: Best grafting tool?

I prefer the German stainless myself, but I do graft wet.

Out of 4 queen rearing classes I held, only one class perferred the Chinese tool. We did discover that it worked much better if you trim...

    Re: Windows XP?

Definitely need to dump IE if you are using XP. Now that Microsoft has announce the problem, hackers will do their best to take advantage of the 20% of computers that are still running XP.

Re: Starving out a package in a Warre!!!

If they couldn't get to the feed they certainly could have starved out overnight. The feed needs to be where the cluster is. I've had someone install a package on foundation and fail to feed them...
  11. Re: Will a virgin queen lay before taking a mating flight?

If it takes longer than 3 weeks from emergence.
  12. Re: Will a virgin queen lay before taking a mating flight?

Eventually she will start laying. Once that happens all you can do is remove her and try again. Fortunately you have about a 3 week window from emergence for her to make a mating flight.

Re: cold nights/ delay queen cell??

I wish I had specific number, but I know of no study and haven't had time to run formal tests myself. I think the longer they are at lower temperatures the longer the delay. I've done as low as...

    Re: Saw Stop table saw

If you cut a lot of plywood a panel saw is your best friend. Doesn't need to be expensive though. I made one out of a cheap circular saw, 2x4's sheet of plywood, some scrap wood, rope, bricks and...

    Re: packages from dadant

You should call and ask. There are a lot of Carniolans coming out of CA and I suspect that is what she is.

    Re: Sundance bottom mount traps

I haven't seen any impact on build up. The mesh they use isn't so small as to strip all the pollen from the bees. In fact I've seen a colony with the pollen trap on become pollen bound.

Re: cold nights/ delay queen cell??

Temperature can affect the timing of when queens emerge from cells. It's also a trick you can use if you have an incubator. Lowering the temperature can buy you a little bit of time when the...

Re: Methods for introducing Virgin Queens
