Being on for 4-6 weeks, does this interfere with honey production? Or is this safe enough to use with supers on the hive?

get a cheap task force electric brad driver and you can have them together in 2 minutes tops.
I always dump my cappings in front of the hive for a few days to let them scavenge the honey, and I don't think I've ever seen them take any of the wax. I've also heard/read that they won't reuse...
Well, we had a few 60 degree days here (yesterday being one of them), so I took advantage of the predicted warm week and mixed up some feed. This was actually a lifesaver, because it got cold really...
cuatro is spelled c-u-a-t-r-o.
One thing that will depend on temperature is CO2 solubility within the mead. Gasses are more soluble in a liquid as temperature goes down. That's why soda tastes better refridgerated... it holds...
Rick- In Howland Blackiston's "Beekeeping for Dummies" he quotes an even lower number... only a fraction of one percent. The local mid-sideliner guy has about 300 hives interspersed between about...
Water is a rather polar molecule because of the bent shape. Electricity is nothing but a stream of electrons, which readily interact with polar molecules. Also, the bonds between hydrogen and...
Mike... would you still reccomend a nuc box for these guys now that they are at least starting to raise brood?
Well, I got in again today and they do have some open brood and a very small amount of capped brood. Looks like they're finally starting. I also marked the queen today so that if I decide to...
Ben, the recipe is here

So, your main token of helpful advice on this recipe is to use ale yeast rather than champagne? Done and done. I'll use one two liter...
beegee- I ran into the same problem as you... I ended up giving most of my honey away. When I actually spreadsheeted all of my recepits this year, I decided that that's got to stop. There has to be...
The root beer recipe on this site calls for addition of wine yeast to honey and some other ingredients and then immediate bottling. I don't guess I understand how my bottles will explode when filled...
beegee, you kind of come down hard on people who can make more money more easily, but from a capitalistic standpoint it's stupid to do more work and take more risk for less money. You can't blame...
Tia- I've always had either one or two hives, pretty good luck with them, but the other day I went over to help the local aging commercial guy. I think we went through 100 hives with brood food...
Great story. Nothing I love more than bees and flying. I'm actually flying down to southern IL to pick up my packages this year.
If it's a large operation as you say, you probably won't have any problems, because they are probably inspected. That being said, caution is worth a lot sometimes.
All the people I called told me they would be focusing on packages and that I wouldn't be able to get a queen for about a month.
I am already feeding, but they haven't really been taking it. They have probably a whole deep worth of either open or capped feed.
Bubbabob... as I said in the first post, the queen isn't dead......
I got into my italians today. There are about 3 frames of bees (it's about 60, so there were some foragers flying too) and I did find the queen. They have a ton of both capped and liquid feed left,...
noted.
wow... selling 40,000 colonies just like that. I bet that one still hurts.
Tia- I've built feeders off of these plans; they are ultra-cheap and they seem to work ok. To go to even less trouble, forget about the funnel and just use the tote with some floaties in it. The...
Mike, there are some Italian, All Star, Buck fast, and Carniolan bees sitting in a bar somewhere talking about how you're a no-good, lyin', cheatin', sorry excuse for a beekeeper smile.gif
won't know about brood until it gets warm enough up here to do a real inspection
